ASABA—DELTA State Government has commended the state Conflict Management Alliance, DSCMA, for its contributions in complementing government’s efforts in tackling security challenges in the state.

Speaking when members of DSCMA paid him an advocacy visit, Secretary to the State Government,  SSG, Mr. Festus Agas, maintained that one of the cardinal thrusts of the SMART agenda of the Senator Ifeanyi Okowa-led administration was anchored on meaningful peace-building platforms aimed at political and social harmony.

“From the analysis of your report, you have done an extensive study on the strained relationship between herdsmen and farmers,” he said, thanking the alliance for its mediation prowess to settling the land dispute between Okolori and Onuabo, Onicha-Olona Obiship tussle, human rights abuse of Ovre-Eku community women, among others.

Emphasizing the need for Nigerians to learn to be governed by laws, to co-exist and avoid self help, he said the state government believes in constructive engagement of stakeholders as the panacea to mitigate clashes between pasturers and farmers.

Earlier in his remarks, the convener of DSCMA, Mr. Esike Onajite, noted that the essence of the advocacy visit was to present a report of the outcome of the meeting between the chairmen of Ndokwa East and Aniocha North Local Government Areas on the land dispute between Okolorri and Onuobo communities.
