Ogun State Government has stressed the need for industries and corporate bodies within the state to participate in infrastructure development to aid maximum productivity and yield more profits for companies.

The State also disclosed that it is investing over N20 billion in infrastructure, by redesigning existing roads while constructing new ones to stimulate a conducive business climate for investors within and outside of the state.

Speaking at the commissioning of an upgraded brewery by Nigerian Breweries in Ota, on Wednesday, the State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, challenged industries operating in the state to support the government in fixing some of the roads as part of their corporate social responsibilities.

He said it would take more time and extra costs for companies to transport their goods and services to its consumers under poor road conditions.
Amosun said: “A lot of companies declare wonderful profit at the end of the year, unknown to them that their profit would be more than that if they fix these little things they take for granted is done.

“The state would write through State Commissioners to engage companies on areas where we can do more, once this is done, all the communities would be developed.”

According to him, “where we found ourselves as a nation, we cannot rely on importing all our raw materials. Therefore industries must continue to source raw materials locally to reduce the cost of production line and save time of unnecessarily waiting for foreign exchange.

“Backward integration and import substitution is key to a self-sustaining economy. We will continue to provide necessary conditions for businesses to operate smoothly in the state.”

He equally assured that the state is heavily investing in security to safeguard the lives and properties of citizens in the state.Chairman, Nigerian Breweries Plc, Chief Kola Jamodu, explained that the PET line, which currently boasts the best technology in the Heineken world was installed to deepen availability of the non-alcoholic product portfolio of the company.

According to the chairman, the investments, totalling over N11 billion stand out as a testimony to its corporate philosophy of winning with Nigeria and they reflect the company’s bold confidence in the State and Nigeria as an investment destination.

Jamodu also stressed that the projects signpost the contribution of the company to the economic development of Ogun State, which also hosts its other brewery in Ijebu Ode, and many of the ancillary industries that the company supports.

In his remarks, former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, commended the efforts of the brewery, noting that the upgrade would further attest to the company’s commitment to deliver quality brands.

Obasanjo, who was represented by Chief Abraham Idowu Akanle, described the private sector as the engine room of economic growth, and called on other corporate organisations to follow the fruitful example of the company.
