ABUJA—MRS Omobolanle Olonisakin, wife of the Chief of Defence Staff, General Gabriel Olonisakin, has asked wealthy and privileged Nigerians to show love to,  and help the less privileged in the society.

Olonisakin, who is the President of Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association, DEPOWA, said the Federal Government alone cannot tackle poverty and crime in the country, adding that wealthy citizens could also play a major role, through empowerment programmes.

She spoke in Abuja, when she led a delegation of DEPOWA executive to Abuja School for the Handicapped at Kuje, where she donated large quantity of various food items and some humanitarian gifts to the students of the school.

Olonisakin’s wife insisted that well meaning Nigerians must begin to rise up to the challenge by showing love to the less privileged, adding that “every effort counts, no matter how small and insignificant it may seem.”

According to her, every gift given or care shown to the less privileged makes a difference in their lives.

While appreciating the founder and workers for caring for pupils of the facility, she commended them for shaping lives of the less privileged and giving the pupils the opportunity to be relevant in life.

In her thank-you address, Head teacher of the school, Mrs Agah  Victoria lauded the DEPOWA President and her entourage for their humanitarian gestures.

She stated that the students in the facility were not jovial but also friendly and appreciative of love showered on them by well meaning Nigerians.

She thanked the delegation for the visit and summed up her comments by saying that with little effort and push, the disabled persons could do many things because according to her, “there is ability in disability.”
