Stakeholders meet on cargo handling, port charges today

Major stakeholders in the maritime sector will today converge on Lagos to discuss salient issues around cargo handling and port charges.

The event, slated to hold at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA), Victoria Island, Lagos, is organised by Business and Maritime West Africa, a maritime and energy journal.

The Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Ameachi, is expected to chair the town hall meeting, while Chairman, Shipping Association of Nigeria (SAN) with Chief Val Usifo, will give the major shipping companies’ perspective on the state of terminal operations in Nigerian ports.

The lead paper will be presented by the Executive Secretary of Nigerian Shippers’ Council, Hassan Bello, with Princess Vicky Haastrup, Chairperson of the Seaports Terminal Operators Association of Nigeria (STOAN), the group for the private companies that took over terminal operations from the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) 10 years ago following up.

Papers will also be presented the Managing Director of NPA, Ms. Hadiza Bala Usman, Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr. Dakuku Peterside, Manufactures Association of Nigeria (MAN), the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) and freight forwarding groups.
