Naezy is an Indian-born rapper and songwriter.
Naezy in an interview has these to say; Before I moved here, I used to live in a chawl in Kurla West. I must have been 7th or 8th standard when I came across the song ‘Temperature’ by Sean Paul. I was completely blown away.
Back then, Iinternet wasn’t so easily available, so I went to a cybercafé and got myself a copy, memorized it and practised it till I got it completely right.
I sang it at school and seemed to gather a lot of attention, everyone seemed amazed. Also, the girls were really easily impressed so I practised harder. I realised I had a flow which the other boys weren’t able to recreate even after trying. That’s when I realised my talent. After that most of my time I would practise to make my skills and vocabulary better.
I was in Khalsa College in Matunga, I had been rapping for a long time now. Neykhil Naik and I formed a group to perform for college events.
That was the inception of The Schizophrenics. Every day after college or during breaks we would sit and try freestyle rapping. That is when my rapping skills got a shape and improved. We would describe random on going events in our raps and create them in an instance. On the other hand, when my first video went viral, it gave Vivian Fernandes’ (Divine) song ‘Yeh mera Bombay’ a tough competition, and so he contacted me.
I wanted to do something for my gully buddies, and that is how The Gully Gang was formed. It was a homage for my pasha people at 400070.
I grew up in a chawl, my friends-circle belonged there. Your friends affect you, and I was very easily influenced as a kid. I was into all sorts of things which I shouldn’t have been doing.
When my parents realised that, we moved to an apartment in Kurla.
There, I was always treated as a misfit and it created a rift between me and my previous gully buddies. We weren’t even allowed to perform at my Khalsa due to partiality. I was at a very depressing and a dark phase of my life. All this just added to my frustration and I wrote them all down and created my first track ‘Aafat’, which I wrote, recorded and created myself and released it on YouTube. It went viral in no time and I started getting a lot of good reviews from the rappers in the scene, he said.
Naezy also reveled that his family was not in support of his music career.
