Teacher strike closes schools in Argentina

A teachers’ strike for higher pay in Argentina forced the suspension of classes Monday at the start of the new school term, in a challenge to President Mauricio Macri.

Thousands of teachers dressed in white marched in the capital Buenos Aires to mark the start of the two-day stoppage.

They are demanding a hike in wages greater than the 17 percent estimated inflation rate this year in recession-hit Argentina.

In Buenos Aires province, the government has rejected a demand for a 35-percent raise in teachers’ pay.

Nationally, the government is refusing to open wage negotiations with teachers.

It wants to limit pay raises to the same level as inflation for all professions.

Macri dismissed the strike as “opportunism,” as he spoke at an event to mark the start of the school term.

Argentina’s economy shrank by 2.3 percent last year. On Monday, ratings agency Moody’s lowered the country’s outlook from “positive” to “stable.”

Mid-term legislative elections in October pose a key test for Macri and his economic reforms.

Three major labor unions have called for demonstrations on Tuesday.

Trump wants Congress to probe leaks of classified information

http://ift.tt/2mwoILu

The White House said Monday that President Donald Trump wants Congress to investigate the leaking of classified information, as well as unsubstantiated allegations that his predecessor Barack Obama tapped his phone.

Spokesman Sean Spicer said he had spoken to Trump about the issue and the president indicated he would like to see Congress broaden the scope of ongoing investigations into Russia’s influence over the US election to include both elements.

The White House has already called for Congress to follow up on Trump’s explosive and unsupported allegation, made over the weekend, that Obama ordered a wiretap of his phone during last year’s campaign.

“I’ve spoken to the president again today, he would ask that they additionally look into this issue of leaks of classified and other information coming from the government,” said Spicer.

“He believes that it undermines our national security and that Congress… using their oversight authority (should) look into these pervasive leaks.”

In March, the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence listed “leaks of classified information” as one of the parameters for its investigation.

Separately, Spicer refused to say whether Trump would testify on the issue of the alleged wiretap.

“We want the House and Senate intelligence committees to look into this, and we haven’t had that request yet. I wouldn’t even dare to suggest I know the answer to that one at this point.”

Is Saif Ali Khan Going To Change Taimur’s Name?…Read full details

http://ift.tt/2lKTznw

Saif, Kareena and Taimur | Source: Instagram |
When Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor named their newborn boy ‘Taimur‘, the internet lost it. Many dissed the couple for naming their baby after Emperor Timur Lang, who was the man behind a brutal massacre that killed thousands of Indians in 1399 AD. When asked about this controversy surrounding his little one, the Nawab told Times of India:

My daughter told me, why don’t you say that you have not named him after Timur Lang, say that’s Timur and this is Taimur.

He also said:

Incidentally, Timur Lang’s son was Shah Rukh, who is the guy who supposedly said we should actually plunder India. A lot of fighting was done by his sons, but nobody has a problem with the name Shah Rukh (laughs).

Khan even revealed that he was contemplating on changing his son’s name:

You know, actually – I haven’t told anyone this – I thought for a second about changing his name. For a couple of weeks. And Kareena was a little against it and she said, ‘People respect you for your opinion and you can’t’… So I said, yeah, but it’s not about people. I don’t want him to get unpopular. And I still might, maybe when he’s one or two, I might change his name in a while, it’s still sinking in, what to do. Someone in my PR agreed with me, and we drafted a small letter. And when I read it, it was so pathetic, that I cancelled the idea.

He added:

If I feel that he’s going to get in trouble in school, I might change it still. It’s a bit late now though. Or not. I don’t know. You wouldn’t want him to be known as the boy who was originally called Taimur, would you?

“No One Can Stop Me From Showing You What My Legs Can Do To Your Little Groin With Just One Kick” – Monali Thakur Hits Back At A Troll…Read full details

http://ift.tt/2kYONhN

Monali Thakur | Source: Instagram |
Being in the public eye doesn’t always come with pros. A lot of times, it comes with a whole load of cons and Internet trolls. Celebrity singer Monali Thakur recently uploaded a picture of herself on social media, only to find an user who had some not-so-nice things to say about her legs and the dresses she chooses to wear. Here’s what a ‘fan’ told her.

You are doing a great job in Rising Star on Colors…but to be very honest we don’t like how you dress up on the show. Why you wear so short dresses only. That looks so uncomfortable. Aap show mein contestants ko guide karte ho like parents, so please apne dress pe thoda focus kijiye because million people aapko dekh rahe hai. Please don’t mind, we felt so uncomfortable so its just a request.

Monali then screenshot the message and put it up on Instagram with a strong message to this follower.

Before blocking a moron like you I wanted to let you know what I think of your brains and minds like yours. You feeling uncomrtable with my short dress is your perverted psychological problem which is not my responsibility or any girl’s! So shove your ‘sabhyata’ nonsense of yours up you a**. And please pray that I never spot you ever in person coz then no one can stop me from showing you what my legs which made you feel uncomfortable can do to your little groin with just one kick! Please don’t mind. Its just a request.

She has now deleted this post from Instagram as she didn’t want the matter to get out of hand, but it definitely sends a strong message out to the trolls – if you cross the line, you will be called out for it. You go, Monali! Stay brave!

Malawi, Tanzania to revive lake dispute talks

http://ift.tt/2kmm9tG

Lake Malawi straddles Tanzania and Malawi PHOTO: ALEXANDER JOE/AFP/File

Malawi and its northern neighbour Tanzania have agreed to revive talks to resolve a long-running border dispute, President Peter Mutharika said Tuesday after meeting Tanzania’s foreign minister in Lilongwe.

The two east African neighbours are at odds over the ownership of Lake Malawi which straddles both countries with Tanzania claiming the top half of Africa’s third largest freshwater lake — a claim contested by Malawi.

“The mediation efforts will be resuscitated towards a logical conclusion of the Lake Malawi border dispute,” Mutharika said in a statement.

Mediation to resolve the dispute has been stalled since 2012, but will be revived under the supervision of former Mozambican president Joaquim Chissano.

Tanzanian foreign minister Augustine Mahiga told journalists after meeting Mutharika that “the lake issue has festered for some time”, confirming the resumption of talks under Chissano.

The 54-year-old dispute stems from colonial-era border lines drawn around the 29,600 square kilometres (11,400 square miles) of Lake Malawi.

The lake is in the Great Lakes system stretching along the East African Rift and is a major tourist attraction that straddles one-third of Malawi.

Based on an 1890 colonial accord, Malawi claims ownership of the whole of the lake except for a portion controlled by Mozambique.

Tanzania insists that half the lake falls within its borders and blames maps drawn up by British and German authorities for the dispute.

“The British and the Germans left different kinds of maps that show the border in between,” Mahiga said.

“It is not a new map, but it is an inherited map which I think needs clarification.”

The border dispute resurfaced after Lilongwe in 2011 awarded British company Surestream Petroleum a licence to drill for oil and gas on the northern part of the lake.

Tanzania has in the past demanded that Malawi should halt exploration activities to allow for a diplomatic solution.

We are now in better position to beat Cameroon, says Eguavoen

http://ift.tt/2kJlt2h

Austin Eguavoen, a former coach of the Super Eagles, has said that the Eagles are now in a better position to beat the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon, the current African champions, in their World Cup qualifiers in August.

Like Eguavoen, another ex-player of the Super Eagles, Edema Fuludu, shared similar opinion, when they spoke in separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Benin on Monday.

The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon on Sunday defeated the Pharaohs of Egypt 2-1 to record its fifth AFCON title, after triumphs in 1984, 1988, 2000 and 2002. The victory, however, seemed to pose a nightmare to soccer fans as the Eagles would confront the Lions in a double-header, for Russia 2018 qualifiers in August.

Currently Nigeria is leading Cameroon with four points. Both ex-internationals said the Lions, being the African champions, would make the Nigeria national team to be better prepared for the August clash.

Eguavoen said he remained upbeat about Eagles chances in the August clash in spite of Cameroon’s emergence as African champion, adding that Nigerians have nothing to worry about.

He, however, said that he was not surprised at the victory of the Indomitable Lions that lifted the AFCON trophy in Gabon. “The victory will give them serious boost no doubt, but it will also make our players not to relax, but be better prepared for the August match.

“Cameroon will be coming here with all their arsenals, including those who didn’t participate in Gabon, but we have a good team with a blend of young and experienced players that will beat the African champion.

“The worst case scenario is for us to beat them here and get an away draw, ” Eguavoen said. On his part, Fuludu, who said no doubt that the Lions are a good team, stressed that the Eagles were capable of getting a good result from them.

According to him, “It would have been better that the match is played next month as Cameroon will still be basking in the euphoria of the AFCON victory to take us for granted.

“But this notwithstanding, we still have time to prepare and we will be better prepared now that our opponent are champions of Africa.

“We have the players and experienced coaching crew to get a better result from the matches; both home and away with Cameroon.’’ NAN reports that the Super Eagles top the group with six points, followed by Cameroon with two points from two matches.

Guard ‘with grudge’ shoots diplomat dead

http://ift.tt/2leMBTD

An Afghan guard with a “personal grudge” shot dead a junior diplomat inside the Afghan consulate in Pakistan’s port city of Karachi on Monday, police said.

“The guard, Rehmat Ullah, opened fire on a junior diplomat Mohammad Zaki Uro, killing him on the spot and wounding another consulate official,” senior police official Azad Khan told AFP.

Paramilitary Rangers and a heavy police contingent surrounded the consulate immediately after the attack amid fears of a possible extremist assault.

“There was nothing of the sort and it seems the guard had some sort of personal grudge with the diplomat,” Khan said.

The guard has been arrested, he said, and an investigation launched.

The consulate is located in Karachi’s upscale Clifton neighbourhood. The missions of Indonesia, the United Kingdom and France are nearby.

Karachi, Pakistan’s largest city and a major business and industrial hub, is rife with political, sectarian and ethnic militancy.

A strategic operation in the city by security forces in recent years has brought a lull in violence, but scattered attacks still take place.

Creative Industry to witness turn around in months, says Lai Mohammed

http://ift.tt/2jJfSb7

Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, PHOTO: GABRIEL IKHAHON

Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, PHOTO: GABRIEL IKHAHON

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed has said that the nation’s creative industry will witness dramatic turn-around in few months.

He stated this on Sunday evening in Lagos at the stage performance of a play “Itan’’ (Story) at the National Theatre by the Thespian Family Theatre and Production.

The minister disclosed that between Feb. 28 and March 6, the British Council in collaboration with the Ministry will be running a capacity building workshop for festival managers all over Nigeria.

“We believe that what our creative people need today is to see the creative industry as creative economy.

“It is not enough to see a fantastic performance like we see here today, but the actors must be able to translate their talent to money.

“There is no reason why while a creative artist should die poor because in other parts of the world, the richest people are the people whose products are based on intellectual creativity,’’

The minister also said that he would be presenting the amended National Endowment for the Arts Act to the Federal Executive Council for consideration and subsequent forwarding to the National Assembly.

He said the amended Act will make it possible for young artists to have access to grants and funds to finance their works.

The minister appealed to the rich and philanthropist to invest more in the creative industry, noting that everywhere in the world, the industry is sustained by philanthropists.

Mohammed said that the Lagos State has offered to assist to renovate the main bowl of the National Theatre, two cinema halls, the exhibition lobby and the banquet hall.

He said the renovation which would be completed for use at the grand finale of the “Lagos at 50 celebration’’ in two months was a fall out of the collaboration between the Federal Government and states.

The minister thanked the state governor, Akinwumi Ambode for his cooperation, stressing that the partnership will breathe life into the National theatre.

He appealed to other governors to look at the creative industry as a local industry which they can annex to create more jobs for the people.

“It may be slow, but I want to assure you that this government will move the creative industry from the margin to the main stay of the economy.

“We are going to strengthen our law enforcement and ensure that illegal reproduction of your works by pirates become a thing of the past,’’ he said.

Mohammed commended the Director of the play, Mrs Ayodele Jaiyesinmi for bringing talents to bear in the production of the world class stage performance.

He said the play is a demonstration of the artificial disconnect among the old, the new and the incoming generations.

“I am so impressed with what I saw today, you can see the diversity, the complexity. We were here and went 60 years back and 60 years forward

“What that means is that no matter the level of technology or modernity we attain, we must never lose our humanity.

“I keep telling the world that Nigeria has a lot to show and tell the world.

“I have watched performances all over the world, this qualifies as an A class performance anywhere in the world,’’ he said.

Jaiyesinmi said that the inspiration for “Itan’’ was based on youth restiveness and tensions in the country caused by generational divide.

She explained that the play captured the challenges of generational divide vividly, its effects on the society and proffered solutions.

If you noticed we have four generations in the play which demonstrated that every generation has its uniqueness, however, each has a feeling of divide.

The older ones feel frustrated and they right off the younger ones thinking that they are too nonchalant and too fluid in their ways.

At the same time, the younger ones just don’t like the older ones because they are very procedural.

“However, the play concludes that we are all important and we all have our characteristics and we need to understand the different features so that we can work together for the progress of the society,” she said.

Jaiyesinmi said the old generation must understand the ways of the young ones and involve them in planning, strategy in order to have a harmonious society.

How I got rid of her fibroid without surgery

http://ift.tt/2jfZMXT

About three years ago I passed out at work and was rushed to the hospital. At that time, I was on my menstrual period and had very heavy bleeding.

My periods were very heavy for the first three to four days and I would have to wear both pads and tampons at the same time. The bleeding was so bad that I had to change both of them every 2 hours.

I normally stay at home on the first three days of my period but on this particular day I needed to be at the office to sign some very important paperwork. About thirty minutes before leaving for the day I fainted. My co-workers rushed me to the hospital. While there the doctor told me that I lost a lot of blood and he wanted to give me a blood transfusion. I declined that treatment. I declined the blood transfusion because I didn’t need it since I wasn’t dying.

I was just anemic from having heavy menstrual periods. The doctor was not pleased with my decision but he didn’t force the issue and I was sent home later that night with some drugs.

My struggle with fibroid

The reason my periods were so heavy at that time was because of the three fibroid I had in my uterus. I first found out about them back in 2012 and in 2013 I had them removed with surgery. Two years later they came back even bigger. My doctor wanted to schedule another surgery but if it didn’t work the first time why would I go under the knife again for a second time? So I decided to just deal with the pain and heavy bleeding and search for a natural way to get rid of them FOR GOOD!

Searching for natural ways to get rid of my fibroids was not easy. I saw several advertisements of all kinds of treatments to shrink fibroids. I was a little skeptical but I was desperate to get rid of the fibroids so I tried one in particular which didn’t work. I was still having heavy painful bleeding with lots of clots. I noticed that the soreness in my breast was gone, but after going for another scan, I was told that my fibroids were still there. I was so discouraged that I scheduled an appointment with my doctor to discuss other possibilities for removing the fibroids.

About two months later, while surfing on the internet I saw a post on Facebook talking about how to get rid of fibroid naturally without surgery. I was very skeptical about it. I didn’t even bother to follow the link in the post to read more. Two days later, as I sat alone in the sitting room feeling hopeless about my fibroid, I decided to go on Facebook and see if I can still access the post I saw two days earlier, thank God I was able to get it. I reluctantly gave the Natural product a try …it just made sense. On September17 of 2016, I began the Fibroid Shrinking program as seen on this website here => http://ift.tt/2k2MGdM

2016: The Turning Point

After being on this program for about 2 and half months, my period was no longer heavy as before. Usually my periods would last 8 days, with 3 – 4 days being very heavy. I would also spot a lot in between my periods but the spotting stopped, with 2 days of heavy bleeding and my cycle lasting for only 5 days. Once this happened I cancelled my appointment with my doctor and stayed loyal to my program. CLICK HERE TO FOLLOW THE SAME PROGRAM

The final result

Like I said earlier, I had 3 fibroid. One was growing inside my uterus and the other two were inside the walls of my uterus. The largest fibroid was the size of a grapefruit. When I got my results back from a scan I went for, the result shows that I only had one fibroid inside the wall of my uterus and that it was the size of a small apple. So two fibroids completely dissolved away and the largest one was the size of a small apple instead of a grapefruit. Since I wasn’t having any problems with my periods and 2 out of the 3 fibroid were gone, I decided to just continue with the program and go on with my life.

Fibroids completely gone

Two months later, I went for another scan and to my surprise and that of my doctor, my fibroid were gone. My doctor kept going over and over the scan result to make sure she was reading it correctly. She couldn’t believe that all of my fibroids were gone without surgery. My uterus was back to its normal size and my periods are now 3 days long. She asked me what I did to make them go away and I told her “I did what I should have done back in 2013. There are not enough words to explain the happiness I have now. I wish I knew about this program when I first had fibroids but as the saying goes ‘things happen for a reason’”.

I am so thrilled with my experience that I inspire others to experience for themselves the profound transformation this fibroid treatment program offers.

I strongly recommend you visit http://ift.tt/2k2MGdM in case you know someone who has fibroid. It has changed my life and now I’m free!

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has urged Nigerians to maintain clean environment, free of rodents to prevent and control Lassa fever. The Chief Executive Officer, NCDC, Dr Chike Ihekweazu gave the advice in an interview with the News agency of Nigeria on Saturday in Abuja.

Ihekweazu also advised healthcare workers to report all frontline suspected cases of Lassa fever to local government Disease Surveillance Officers (DSOs). He said that seven states had reported at least one case of Lassa fever with 19 confirmed cases and six people dead since December 2016.

He, however, noted that many laboratories in Nigeria did not have the capacity to diagnose Lassa fever.

According to the NCDC boss, by the second quarter of 2017, the national reference laboratory will be ready, where rapid diagnostic test will be carried without delay.

Contributing, the Media Coordinator, NCDC, Lawal Bakare, said the centre was collaborating with the Ministry of Agriculture to fashion out appropriate ways of food preservation to prevent the spread of Lassa fever. He also urged people to practice hygiene to prevent the spread of debris which could attract rodents in the home.

The Connect Centre Respondent of NCDC, Ukenedo Chika, reiterated the need for Nigerians to make use of the NCDC connect centre toll free number, Twitter account and Facebook page.
According to Bakare, cleanliness is the best and only way of preventing rodents.
