Durban stripped of 2022 Commonwealth Games…See full details

http://ift.tt/2mCcZJ9

PHOTO:AFP/Getty image

The 2022 Commonwealth Games will no longer take place in Durban, South Africa, the BBC and other British media reported Monday.

South Africa sports minister Fikile Mbalula indicated that the government might withdraw its financial support because of the cost of staging the multi-sport event.

Durban was named as the 2022 Games host in September 2015 but Mbalula told a news conference in Cape Town in February that the South African government and the organising Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) had still to reach an agreement over costs.

“It does not look like we will find each other,” said Mbalula. “We have given it our best shot, but we cannot live beyond our means.”

The CGF executive board was holding a scheduled meeting in London on Monday with the future of the 2022 Games on the agenda.

A CGF spokesman contacted by AFP would not confirm the reports about Durban losing the Games but said he expected to issue a statement later Monday.

The mayor of Liverpool has said the northwest English city is prepared to host the 2022 Games if they are no longer in Durban.

Abuja Airport closure: Organisers postpone Intl Trade and Investment conference

http://ift.tt/eA8V8J

Abuja – The Nigeria International Trade and Investment Conference (NITIC) 2017 with focus on agribusiness, manufacturing and financial services billed to hold in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital in March, has been postponed till June.

Organisers, Africa International Trade and Development Trust said the postponement was due to the closure of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, for upgrade of its dilapidated runway.

The spokesman for the conference organiser, NITIC, Mr Sand Mba Kalu disclosed this in a statement on Sunday in Abuja.

The conference, themed: “Multiple Frontiers-Moving Away From Oil”, aims to bring together local and international stakeholders to a common platform to strengthen the positive contributions from International Trade and Investment in the non-oil sector, focusing on agribusiness, manufacturing and financial services.

NITIC 2017, endorsed by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD) amongst others, scheduled for March 2017 at the NAF Conference Centre, Abuja, is now slated for June 2017 at the same venue.

He said the change in date was necessary to accommodate the interest of stakeholders while allowing for the completion of maintenance and extensive repairs at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA), Abuja, by the Federal Government.

“Efforts to convince registered participants and embassies to use the Kaduna International Airport were fruitless;

“We have talked to several of them but they seemed not interested in Kaduna. So, the only option was to postpone it to June, when the renovation work at the Abuja airport runway would have been over.

“This change in date is at a huge cost, with travels and other logistics altered”, said Kalu.

DotAfrica: Abuja residents commend AU launch of internet domain

http://ift.tt/eA8V8J

Abuja – Some Abuja residents on Sunday said they were excited about the recent launch of DotAfrica (.Africa) by the African Union (AU) which aimed at bringing Africa together as an internet community.

DotAfrica is a generic Top Level Domain (gTLD) established by Africans for Africa and the rest of the world for better access to e-commerce, technology and infrastructure.

The domain has been created to give Africans an opportunity to forge a unique online identity which will associate their products, services and information with people in Africa and beyond.

Some of the individuals who spoke on Sunday shared their views on the African domain that was launched on Friday by the AU.

Mrs Bukola Adeyemi, a software programmer, said that the creation of dotAfrica was a good step to putting Africa on the digital map which was beneficial for e-commerce.

“It is nice to see that Africa now has a position on the digital map which would be beneficial to Africa’s development especially with the use of e-commerce; thanks to AU.

“This means the dotAfrica which is represented as .Africa on the internet would be used in place of the popular dotcom represented by .com when typing an address on the internet.

“However, this should be made available to only African businesses and internet pages or websites to internationally showcase Africa’s productivity and potentials.

“It serves the same purpose as the dotUK representing United Kingdom, dotZa for South Africa and dotNg for Nigerian websites.’’

Similarly, Mr Tonye Jack, who is also a software programmer, said it was high time Africa had its own domain as AU had identified a qualified organisation to ensure the dotAfria domain was successful.

“I am happy that AU identified the need for Africa to have its own domain.

“ The organisation responsible for handling this new African domain is known as ZA Central Registry and it is located in South Africa.

“With over 15 year’s experience, the organisation is responsible for one of the first African internet domains known as dotCo-dotZa (.co.za) which is mainly used by South Africa.

“AU identified the organisation as the organisation most qualified to handle this new domain. So I am sure they would do a good job in maintaining and managing websites set on the domain.

“This is a big step for Africa,’’ he said.

Mr Tekenna Dagogo, a civil servant, said that “this domain creates a good opportunity for Africans to showcase Africa’s potentials which would help attain economic development.

“And will definitely encourage better online trade and exchange of information between continents which can promote economic development.

“Although different African countries have their own domain, it is beneficial for Africa as a whole to have a domain of its own represented on the internet to showcase Africa as a whole.

“This means that organisations that have interest in developing Africa as a whole can stop using dotcom and use dot Africa instead; this will show the focus, target and origin of the organisation.

Rainstorm: Lawmakers assure victims of FG, State’s intervention

http://ift.tt/eA8V8J

The Lawmakers (APC-Edo), representing Etsako Federal Constituency and Etsako East Constituency in Edo State House of Assembly have assured victims of rainstorm in Okpella, Edo, of the Federal and state governments’ intervention.

The lawmakers, Mr Johnson Oghuma and Mr Kingsley Ugabi, gave the assurance during their visit to the affected victims and assessment of damage done by the rainstorm at Okpella, Etsako East Local Government Area, Edo, on Saturday.

The downpour of March 6 led to the death of a four-year-old girl, Miss Maria Idzi, with many others injured.

Mr Johnson Oghuma (APC-Edo), representing Etsako Federal Constituency, said the house had mandated National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to send relief materials to the victims of the devastating rainstorm to alleviate their sufferings.

“I came to see things for myself and to sympathise with you all and also to report to the House Committee on NEMA on the extent of the damage.

“We need to take the statistics of every house and property that have been affected which spread across villages and communities in Okpella area.

“So, that when there is a succour and a helping hands from the Federal Government, those affected by the disaster would be assisted,’’ Oghuma said.

He sympathized with the family of Idzi over the death of their four-year-old daughter,  Idzi, and prayed the Almighty God grant them the fortitude to bear the loss.

“This is something nobody plan for and I can see that the damage is much, and it is my prayer that we will not experience it again,’’ he said.

Earlier, Mr Kingsley Ugabi, a lawmaker representing the constituency in the state assembly, said that the Edo State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), has been mobilised to provide relief materials to affected victims.

“This is a tragedy, people are suffering, I think the Federal and the state governments need to do something,’’ he said.

Assange accuses CIA of ‘devastating incompetence’ over leaks

http://ift.tt/2n3JMK3

a man walking over the seal of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) in the lobby of CIA Headquarters in Langley, Virginia. The CIA can turn your TV into a listening device, bypass popular encryption apps, and possibly control your car, according to a trove of alleged documents from the US spy agency released on March 7, 2017 by WikiLeaks. The group posted nearly 9,000 documents it said were leaked from the Central Intelligence Agency, in what it described as the largest-ever publication of secret intelligence materials.<br />/ AFP PHOTO / AFP FILES / SAUL LOEB

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange on Thursday accused the CIA of “devastating incompetence” for keeping hacking secrets in one place and said he would work with tech giants to develop fixes after he leaked them.

“This is a historic act of devastating incompetence, to have created such an arsenal and then stored it all in one place,” Assange told a press conference streamed live from Ecuador’s embassy in London, where he has been living as a fugitive from justice since 2012.

“It is impossible to keep effective control of cyber weapons… If you build them, eventually you will lose them,” Assange said.

He said his anti-secrecy website had “a lot more information” about the Central Intelligence Agency’s hacking operation but would hold off on publishing it until WikiLeaks had spoken to tech manufacturers about fixes.

“We have decided to work with them to give them some exclusive access to the additional technical details we have so fixes can be developed and then pushed out.

“Once this material is effectively disarmed by us we will publish additional details about what has been occurring,” he added.

On Tuesday, WikiLeaks published nearly 9,000 documents it said were part of a huge trove leaked from the CIA, describing it as the largest ever publication of secret intelligence materials.

“This extraordinary collection, which amounts to more than several hundred million lines of code, gives its possessor the entire hacking capacity of the CIA,” it said.

The documents showed that CIA hackers can turn a TV into a listening device, bypass popular encryption apps, and possibly control one’s car.

Most experts believe the materials to be genuine, and US media said Wednesday that the Federal Bureau of Investigation is opening a criminal probe into the leak.

The source of the materials remained unclear. The investigation could focus on whether the CIA was sloppy in its controls, or, as The Washington Post reported, it could be “a major mole hunt” for a malicious leaker or turncoat inside the agency.

WikiLeaks itself said the documents, hacking tools and code came from an archive that had circulated among US government hackers and private contractors.

An investigation would come as the CIA is already enmeshed in a politically-charged probe into Russia’s alleged interference in the US election last year in support of President Donald Trump’s campaign.

WikiLeaks, which has stunned the US government with a series of publications of top secret political, diplomatic and intelligence materials in recent years, said Tuesday’s leak was only the first of a series of releases of CIA hacking materials.

REDBONE: The Meaning Of Redbone by Childish Gambino

http://ift.tt/2mBnRcw

p

“Redbone” is a single by American recording artist Childish Gambino. It was released on November 17, 2016, and serves as the second single from his third studio album “Awaken, My Love!”.

p

“Redbone” is about paranoia and infidelity in a relationship. The track was first revealed at Gambino’s Pharos concert experience, but officially premiered on BBC Radio 1 as Annie Mac’s Hottest Record. The DJ described it as “oozing with soul.”

The instrumentation, led by a plodding slap bass line, leaves a ton of open space for the swaggering, syncopated percussion and twinkling glockenspiel that evoke the track’s distinct throwback feel.

For the meaning of Redbone, let’s check out what the word “REDBONE” really mean and it’s definition, as Uzomedia will guide you to the pass!!!

Redbone meaning by Urban Dictionary

1. Light skinned female/male mixed with black and another race. “she doesn’t look full black, she must be a redbone”

2. A fine, thick light skinned girl. “imma get me some red bones 2nite.”

3. Okay this is the real, real deal folks.
Redbone, the correct terminology, is a black person who has red undertones in their hair and skin. Usually light or light caramel but not always. They just have reddish hair and skin.

BUT!!! It’s NOW used to describe a particular look that occurs in African Americans. Each culture has their own term for this look. In Cuba its: ‘Haba’ or ‘mulatto’. Usually light light complexion.

However, The term TODAY, is used in Black culture for any light, super high yellow girl/woman, mulatto looking woman who is Black(Not Latina, etc).

If she is mixed, but still looks traditionally black and mixed w/white (Not the Asian and Black look)she may still be called redbone, but its used to describe a Black Woman(who can HAVE 2 black parents) who happens to be extremely light.

You can call a guy “redbone” too but its been used so much to describe light skinned women that it wouldn’t be used quite right in everyday vernacular, although technically you’d be right.Nowadays it has too many sexual overtones for light light women.

Term is used heavily in the south.

I am considered a “redbone” and I get called this all the time simply because I am a woman, and Black, but lighter than most Black people in America.

A light skinned girl walks by: Hey Red (short for redbone) come here.

She’s the redbone standing next to Tameka.

I like redbone girls.

Redbone girls r too yellow for me, I need sum colour!

She redbone too withg the long hair!

She fine as hell!

I dont really like redbone girls, theyre not my style.

“Redbone” lyrics

Daylight, I wake up feeling like you won’t
play right
I usually know but now, that shit don’t
feel right
It made me put away my pride
So long, you made a nigga wait for some,
so long
You make it hoverboard like that, but no
wrong
I’m wishing I could make this mine, oh
If you want it, yeah
You can have it, oh, oh, oh
If you need it, ooh
We can make it, oh
If you want it
You can have it
But stay woke
Niggas creepin’
They gon’ find you
Gon’ catch you sleepin’
Ooh, now stay woke
Niggas creepin’
Now don’t you close your eyes
Too late
You wanna make it right, but now it’s too
late
My peanut butter chocolate cake with
Kool-Aid
I’m trying not to waste my time
If you want it, oh
You can have it, you can have it
If you need it
You better believe in something
We can make it
If you want it
You can have it, aah!
But stay woke
Niggas creepin’
They gon’ find you
Gon’ catch you sleepin’
Put your hands up on me
Now stay woke
Niggas creepin’
Now don’t you close your eyes
But stay woke, ooh
Niggas creepin’
They gon’ find you
Gon’ catch you sleepin’
Ooh, now stay woke
Niggas creepin’
Now don’t you close your eyes
Baby get so scandalous, oh
How’d it get so scandalous?
Oh, oh
Baby you
How’d it get…
How’d it get so scandalous?
Ooh we get so scandalous
But stay woke
But stay woke

Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic will miss the FA Cup quarter-final at Chelsea after accepting a charge of violent conduct and an immediate three-match ban, England’s Football Association said Tuesday.

Both Ibrahimovic and Bournemouth defender Tyrone Mings were charged on Monday following two incidents in Saturday’s bad-tempered 1-1 Premier League draw.

Mings appeared to deliberately stamp on Ibrahimovic’s head as he jumped over him late in the first half at Old Trafford and the Swedish striker seemed to retaliate moments later by elbowing the defender in the head.

Bournemouth have until 1800 GMT Tuesday to decide whether to contest the charge against Mings.

Africa retail giants Steinhoff, Shoprite shelve merger

http://ift.tt/2lDm7zc

PHOTO:AFP

South African retail firms Steinhoff International and Shoprite Holdings announced Monday they had scrapped plans to merge their local assets to form the continent’s biggest retailer.

The plan announced in December 2016 was geared to create a discount retailer worth over $14 billion to target Africa’s value conscious consumers.

The companies said in a joint statement they “decided to terminate their negotiations related to the proposed transaction” as their shareholders could not reach agreement.

“The fact that the relevant parties could not reach an agreement in respect of the share exchange resulted in the negotiations being terminated,” read the statement.

The proposed ventured was to be called Retail Africa.

Both companies are leaders in the African retail sector.

Shoprite is the continent’s largest supermarket with a footprint in 14 African countries, including Nigeria, Africa’s largest economy, oil-producing Angola and Zambia.

It was proposed that Steinhoff would sell its African assets to Shoprite in return for a controlling stake in the supermarket chain.

Steinhoff’s African businesses include a range of credit-based household goods and the company also has extensive interests in Europe.
