NANS to submit anti-corruption report to Buhari
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) on Sunday in Abuja, said its report on anti-corruption was ready for submission to President Muhammadu Buhari.
NANS President, Mr Chinonso Obasi disclosed this when speaking with newsmen at the side-lines of a thanksgiving service to mark the return of Buhari at Faith Miracle Centre International(FMCI).
NANS had on March 8 declared a three-day prayer for the quick recovery and early return of Buhari to Nigeria.
He said that God had answered the prayers of over 40 million Nigerian students as the president, who had been on extended medical vacation, returned within the period of the prayer.
Obasi said that students were grateful to God for granting their prayers.
“The urgent appeal I am making to Mr President, which is why we prayed for him to recover and come back, is to urgently order the anti-graft agencies to beam their searchlight on our tertiary institutions.
“We have done a lot of work underground; any time within the week, we will be submitting our report on anti-corruption war we have been fighting.
“We believe so much that he will swing into action.
“We are pleading with Mr President to set up a special anti-corruption court; there is no gainsaying, we are fighting corruption and people found guilty keep on appealing,’’ he said.
Obasi said that Nigerian students were the most marginalised group in Nigeria and appealed to the president to subsidise education.
According to the NANS president, when a Nigerian child is trained, the nation is trained.
He said it was wrong to leave the responsibility of training a Nigerian child to the parents because untrained children were tools for militancy and insurgency.
Earlier in a special prayer for Buhari, Pastor Faith Vedelago thanked God for restoring the president’s health and bringing him back to Nigeria.
She commended NANS for making out time to fast and pray for the president.
“I will advise the president to also be prayerful; I believe that God will give him the wisdom to lead the nation well.
“God said we should pray for our leaders and that is what we are doing; I believe that God will give him the grace to lead.
“God has never forsaken Nigeria and I know he will not forsake us this time around,’’ she said.
She said that if the citizens played their roles with commitment, things would be easy for the leaders.

Chelsea go 11 points clear, Leicester into bottom three

Chelsea surged 11 points clear at the top of the Premier League as Pedro inspired a 3-1 win over Swansea, while Leicester’s gloom deepened as the troubled champions plunged into the relegation zone on Saturday.
Antonio Conte’s leaders won for the 17th time in their last 20 league games to push them a step closer to the title.
Cesc Fabregas, restored to the team in place of Nemanja Matic, was making his 300th Premier League appearance and the former Arsenal star marked the milestone in the 19th minute with his 46th goal in the competition.
Picked out inside the penalty area by Pedro’s cut-back, Fabregas nimbly adjusted his stride before clipping his shot past Lukasz Fabianski.
Despite being out-played for much of the first half, Swansea snatched an equaliser seconds before the interval at Stamford Bridge.
Gylfi Sigurdsson’s long free-kick caught the Blues napping and Spanish striker Fernando Llorente rose to head powerfully beyond Thibaut Courtois.
But Chelsea’s dominance was rewarded in the 72nd minute when Pedro’s routine long-range effort slipped past a weak attempted stop by Fabianski.
Diego Costa wrapped up the points when he finished off Eden Hazard’s pass in the 84th minute for his 17th goal of the season.
With second placed Manchester City’s scheduled derby against Manchester United postponed due to their rivals’ League Cup final date with Southampton on Sunday, Chelsea have opened up a huge lead at the top.
Third placed Tottenham can trim Chelsea’s advantage to 10 points if they beat Stoke on Sunday.
While sacked boss Claudio Ranieri was saying his farewells at the club’s Belvoir Drive training base on Saturday, Leicester’s fight for survival took a turn for the worse without the players even kicking a ball.

Still digesting Ranieri’s stunning dismissal on Thursday, Leicester don’t play until Liverpool’s visit to the King Power Stadium on Monday.
Amid reports a player revolt had led to Ranieri’s exit, several Leicester players took to social media to praise the Italian, although none expressed disappointment at his exit.
But there was bad news for the malcontents from Selhurst Park, where Crystal Palace’s 1-0 win over Middlesbrough left Leicester one point from safety in 18th place.
Palace had lost six of their last seven league games and their previous five league fixtures at Selhurst Park all ended in defeat.
But Sam Allardyce’s side climbed above Leicester thanks to Patrick van Aanholt, who notched his first goal for Palace since his January move from Sunderland with a cool finish from the edge of the area in the 34th minute.
Middlesbrough are without a win in nine league games and lie one point above the bottom three.
Everton pushed their former manager David Moyes closer to relegation with a 2-0 win over bottom of the table Sunderland at Goodison Park.
Ronald Koeman’s team went ahead when Senegal midfielder Idrissa Gueye fired into the roof of the net in the 40th minute.
Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku sealed the points for seventh placed Everton in the 80th minute to leave Sunderland three points from safety.
Hull missed a chance to climb out of the relegation zone with a 1-1 draw against Burnley at the KCOM Stadium.
Tom Hudderstone’s 72nd minute penalty, awarded for Michael Keane’s handball, put Marco Silva’s second bottom team ahead.
But Burnley, embarrassedly beaten by non-league Lincoln in the FA Cup last weekend, equalised through Keane four minutes later.
The visitors held on for only their second away league point this season despite Ashley Barnes’ late red card for elbowing Andrea Ranocchia.
Bournemouth are just five points above the relegation zone after losing 2-1 at West Bromwich Albion.
Eddie Howe’s side took the lead after five minutes when Josh King converted a penalty awarded for Allan Nyom’s foul on Ryan Fraser.
But Craig Dawson equalised in the 10th minute with a deflected long range effort before Gareth McAuley’s close-range finish won it in the 22nd minute

Manchester United’s record goalscorer Wayne Rooney returned to training on Tuesday having missed the last four matches with a muscular injury.
The 31-year-old forward — who became United’s all-time goalscorer passing Bobby Charlton’s tally of 249 when he scored against Stoke on January 21 — took part in the squad’s last session before they fly to France for Wednesday’s Europa League last 32 second leg clash with St Etienne.
United — who will be without suspended midfielder Ander Herrera and the injured defender Phil Jones — won the first leg 3-0 part of a four match winning streak coinciding with Rooney’s absence.
Rooney — whom United manager Jose Mourinho said would not be sold despite reported interest from China as the club chases three Cups — trained in front of the media in a group also comprising Anthony Martial and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

Trump blames airport chaos on protesters
US President Donald Trump on Monday again rejected accusations that his ban on travellers from Muslim countries had prompted chaos in US airports, blaming protesters and a computer systems outage at Delta Airlines.
Trump’s executive order issued Friday temporarily banning travellers from seven predominantly Muslim countries and suspending the arrival of all refugees prompted thousands to protest at major US airports amid outrage around the world.
“Big problems at airports were caused by Delta computer outage, protesters and the tears of Senator Schumer,” he tweeted about the Democratic Senate minority leader who made an emotional vow on Sunday to fight Trump’s order.
Trump played down the detention of 109 people of the 325,000 arriving in the United States, adding that his new Homeland Security Department chief John Kelly assures “all is going well with very few problems. MAKE AMERICA SAFE AGAIN!”
“There is nothing nice about searching for terrorists before they can enter our country,” Trump added in another tweet. “This was a big part of my campaign. Study the world!”
Trump’s order suspends the arrival of all refugees for a minimum of 120 days, Syrian refugees indefinitely and bars citizens from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen for 90 days.
The White House later pulled back on part of the ban, saying it would not apply to those with permanent residence status in the United States.
Some top Republican lawmakers have urged Trump to back down over measures that stranded travellers around the world and prompted tens of thousands to protest in a number of US cities, criticising what they see as anti-Muslim policies.
Introduced just a week after he took office to stop “radical Islamic terrorists” from entering the United States, the order’s vague language has caused confusion among border guards charged with implementing it.
Four federal judges have moved to halt deportations of those detained at airports.
Apparently addressing criticism that the White House introduced the order suddenly without consulting border service and other relevant officials, Trump tweeted on Monday that “if the ban were announced with a one week notice, the ‘bad’ would rush into our country during that week.”
