55 doctors, nurses arrested for being clock-in cheats
The police on Friday arrested 55 doctors, nurses, and other staffers at a Naples public hospital for being clock-in cheats.
One of the suspects worked as a chef and another went to play tennis while claiming to be on duty at the central Loreto Mare hospital, investigators told reporters at a press conference.
Hidden cameras, wiretaps, and surveillance revealed that the errant doctors, nurses, and radiologists dodged the clock by having one among them sign them in, with one suspect known to have swiped 490 badges over the course of a few months, prosecutors said.
The suspects defrauded public coffers of an estimated 800,000 euros (almost 850,000 dollars) over the course of five years, investigators said.

Lassa fever kills 4 in Bauchi-Commissioner
The Bauchi State Ministry of Health has confirmed the death of four patients out of the five cases of Lassa fever in Bauchi, Alkaleri and Ganjuwa Local Government Areas of the state.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr Halima Muqaddas, made the confirmation on Friday while addressing journalists in Bauchi.
“We have confirmed five cases of Lassa fever from Jan. 24 to date. Three cases from Bauchi Local Government and the three are dead.
“In Alkaleri, we had one case and the patient died while in Ganjuwa, it was only one case and the person is alive and is being treated.
“The cases were found in different local governments that we have never had a single case in previous years.
“This disease is due to the non adherence to maintaining personal and environmental hygiene,” she said.
Muqaddas said that all suspected cases would be quarantined at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital (ATBU), Bauchi.
The commissioner directed all health facilities in the state to treat all cases with outmost caution to fast-track diagnosis of the disease.
She advised health personnel to adhere strictly to medical guidelines of using disposable hand gloves as well as hand washing after every examination and contacts with all patients.
Muqaddas appealed to members of the public to cultivate the culture of hand washing to reduce intake of bacteria and other micro organisms.
“All health personnel, including cleaners, should observe the medical guidelines of using protections such as hand gloves and proper hand washing to safeguard them.
“Members of the public should cover all foods and leftovers and also maintain proper personal and environmental hygiene to ensure that rats don’t get into foods,” she advised.
Lassa fever is an acute viral haemorrhagic illness of 2-21 days duration, caused by lassa virus.
Discovered in Lassa village, Borno, in 1969, the disease is transmitted to humans via contact with food or household items contaminated with rodent urine or faeces.

136 suspects arrested over xenophobia mayhem unleashed on immigrants in S/Africa
South African police on Friday arrested 136 suspects in connection with their involvement in the xenophobia mayhem unleashed on immigrants in Pretoria.
The arrests followed a fresh wave of xenophobic attacks in Gauteng Province heightened by an anti-immigrants march held in Pretoria on Friday.
The march saw numerous shops around the city centre closed, with customers still locked inside.
The 15km march left a trail of destruction when marchers struck makeshift shelters of a religious group camping outside the Tshwane Events Centre.
Police fired rubber bullets to try and disperse protesters as well as the large number of foreign nationals who gathered together for safety.
Acting National Police Commissioner Kgomotso Phahlane said they had stepped in and the situation in Pretoria was now calm and under control.
Officers found a 5 litre container filled with petrol as well as clothes on one of the suspects.
Lt. Gen. l Phahlane said: “136 people have been arrested over 24 hours but we are unable to confirm how many of those arrested are South African and how many aren’t. We cannot allow situation to be overwhelmed by crowd. We use proportional force.”
A man was shot with rubber bullets when he got caught in the crossfire between police and protesters during the anti-foreigner march.
Mr Sello Tshatswayo said he was trying to stop a taxi to go home from school in the Pretoria CBD.
“They just started shooting, we were in a group and we all just ran in different directions,” Mr Tshatswayo said.
Fears were mounting among residents that the clashes could spill into the weekend.
“It was really scary with lots of police in our area and choppers over Pretoria west. This can’t be right, we can’t live in fear like this. Authorities need to deal with it otherwise it will continue throughout the weekend,” said Ms Hlengiwe Mabhena, an Atteridgeville resident.
“It was bad in the morning because anybody who was not part of the march was becoming a target. They even uprooted trees and damaged highways’ side barriers‚” another resident, Mr Bonnie Molefe, said.
Tshwane Mayor Solly Msimanga said the anti-immigrant sentiments have no place in our society.
“The issue of rising unemployment requires all our collective efforts to turn this tide around. Tshwane, like other urban centres around the globe is faced with an urgent need to address the increasing rate of urbanisation and create more work opportunities,” he said.

Trump blasts FBI over leaks
U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday criticised the Federal Bureau of Investigation, FBI for failing to stop leaks of security information to the media.
“The FBI is totally unable to stop the national security ‘leakers’ that have permeated our government for a long time.
“They can’t even find the leakers within the FBI itself. Classified information is being given to media that could have a devastating effect on U.S., find now,” Trump wrote on Twitter
The tweet follows a CNN report that the agency had turned down a White House request to dismiss reports of contact between the Trump presidential campaign and Russia.

In his response, he described 2face Idibia as ‘the only Illiterate that makes sense with his music’. He also said, ‘How on earth will 2face fight with an instrument he’s not used to, he should lead the protest with his music’.

No plan to Islamise Nigeria, says FG (Read full details)

The Federal Government says the alleged Islamisation of Nigeria under the current administration is totally false and should be perceived in its entirety as a campaign of calumny.
The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed stated this on Monday in Ilorin at the Federal Government Town Hall meeting for the North Central zone.
He noted that in recent times, the media had been increasingly awash with incendiary statements designed to pitch the adherents of the two prominent religions Christians and Muslims against one another.
The minister said the secular nature of Nigeria’s Constitution makes the issue of religious dominance and impunity improbable.
“Such fallacies like the Islamisation of Nigeria, the killing of Christians by Muslims, the labeling of Nigeria as the most dangerous place for Christians in the world can only serve one purpose: trigger a religious war.
“Needless to say that no nation ever survives a religious war,’’ he said.
The minister said those making the allegations were using religion as tool to demonise the government and divert attention from the government’s anti-corruption stance.
He said that more often than not, conflicts between Muslims and Christians were fuelled by political motivations, ethnic differences, extremism, intolerance and terrorism.
“Make no mistake about it, there have been conflicts between adherents of the two major religions in certain parts of the country.
“To now extrapolate from that to say Nigeria is the most dangerous place for Christians in the world is a disservice to Nigeria and an overkill.’’
He appealed to the media to desist from providing a platform for exponents of incendiary statements.
The minister also appealed to Christian and Muslim leaders to emulate Catholic Cardinal John Onaiyekan and Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar who formed the Inter-faith Initiative for Peace to promote inter-faith dialogue.
Mohammed said the North-Central edition is the eighth in the series of the Town Hall Meetings, which started in Lagos on April 25, 2016.
He said the intention was to bridge the communication gap between the government and the people, carrying the people along in the process of governance and also getting the much-needed feedback from the citizenry.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Ministers of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi and Water Resources, Suleiman Adamu attended the event .
Others are Ministers of State for Mines and Steel, Bawa Bwari, Budget and National Planting, Zainab Ahmed and Industry, Trade and Investment, Aisha Abubakar.
The ministers gave accounts of their stewardship and fielded questions from the audience on critical national issues.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Monday that all “responsible nations” should back new sanctions against Iran, speaking during a meeting with his British counterpart Theresa May in London.
He said he welcomed US President Donald Trump’s “insistence on new sanctions against Iran. I think other nations should follow suit, certainly responsible nations,” he said, accusing Iran of “provocation after provocation”.
“Iran seeks to annihilate Israel, it says so openly, it seeks to conquer the Middle East, it threatens Europe, it threatens the West, it threatens the world,” he said.
“I’d like to talk to you on how we can ensure that Iran’s aggression does not go unanswered,” he told May.
Trump’s administration last week said Iran was formally “on notice” after a recent missile test and has voiced opposition to the Iran nuclear deal.
Netanyahu is a fierce opponent of the agreement with world powers, including Britain, in which Iran pledged to curb its nuclear programme in return for sanctions relief.
The deal was implemented in January 2016. A spokeswoman for May said the prime minister made clear the nuclear agreement “is vital and must be properly enforced and policed, while recognising concerns about Iran’s pattern of destabilising activity in the region.”
During the bilateral talks May “reiterated the UK’s opposition to settlement activity” and said Britain remains committed to a two-state solution “as the best way to bring stability and peace to the region”, her spokeswoman said.
There has been a sharp acceleration in Israeli settlement expansion plans since Trump took office last month, with more than 6,000 new homes announced in less than a fortnight.
Britain voted in favour of a UN Security Council resolution passed in December demanding a halt to settlement construction. The vote prompted Israel to temporarily scale back relations.
But Britain refused to sign the final statement of a Middle East peace conference held in Paris last month that was strongly opposed by Israel.
