Trouble for Ibrahimovic as Man United held…See full details

http://ift.tt/2m5KQdc

Zlatan Ibrahimovic was at the centre of controversy as Manchester United were held 1-1 by 10-man Bournemouth in an extraordinary Premier League match at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Ibrahimovic, United’s 26-goal top scorer, was fortunate not to be sent off before seeing a penalty saved as Jose Mourinho’s side missed the opportunity to move into the Champions League places.

Marcos Rojo gave the home side the lead with his first league goal for the club, before former United forward Joshua King equalised from the penalty spot five minutes from the end of the first half.

But the match centred on a series of incidents in quick succession at the end of the half, in which both Ibrahimovic and Tyrone Mings were lucky to escape red cards.

Bournemouth defender Mings appeared to stamp on the head of the former Paris Saint-Germain forward.

Ibrahimovic, already on a yellow card, then elbowed the centre-back in the face seconds later, but received only a telling off from referee Kevin Friend.

Both Ibrahimovic and Mings are likely to face retrospective disciplinary action from the Football Association.

In the ensuing melee, Bournemouth midfielder Andrew Surman shoved Ibrahimovic and was shown a second yellow card. But Surman was only shown a red card after United left-back Luke Shaw reminded Friend he had already been booked.

Artur Boruc, the visitors’ 37-year-old goalkeeper, had a fine game, making a series of saves against a United side who dominated. His best moment was keeping out Ibrahimovic’s penalty with just under 20 minutes to go, getting down low to his right to push the ball aside.

The point means United remain in sixth place, where they have remained since early November, while Bournemouth ended a run of four successive league defeats.

Bournemouth looked as if they would be overwhelmed in the first half-hour of a match that reached boiling point as the interval approached.

– Increasingly heated –
United created a host of chances, with the recalled Wayne Rooney, Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial going close.

The visitors’ resistance was broken midway through the half as Rojo deflected in Antonio Valencia’s cross-shot to score his first league goal for United.

But Bournemouth, who had spurned one early chance as Benik Afobe slipped when clear, drew level five minutes before half-time. King struck a penalty into David de Gea’s top right-hand corner after Phil Jones had brought down Marc Pugh.

Boruc then made further fine reaction saves to deny Rooney and Ibrahimovic, before the match’s two key flashpoints occurred in the final moments of the half.

Ibrahimovic’s battle with Mings had become increasingly heated and the former Sweden striker was fuming after his opponent appeared to stamp on the side of his head amid a scramble.

Ibrahimovic responded seconds later by elbowing Mings in the face. Having already been booked, the striker escaped with just a lecture from Friend. Bouremouth’s sense of injustice was then heightened as Surman, booked for an earlier challenge on Shaw, was dismissed.

Jason Tindall, the Bournemouth assistant manager, first ranted at the assistant referee, then marched onto the field at half-time to usher his players away from Friend.

Rooney saw a clever shot on the turn deflected just over and Gosling was relieved to see a header back towards his own goal drop just wide. Boruc was then alert once more, flying to his left to tip aside Pogba’s 25-yard curler as it headed towards the top corner.

Mourinho made a triple substitution with 20 minutes to go in an attempt to force the win, sending on Jesse Lingard, Marouane Fellaini and Marcus Rashford for Shaw, Michael Carrick and Rooney.

Within seconds, United were awarded a penalty as Adam Smith handled Pogba’s header back across goal. Ibrahimovic stepped up, but Boruc saved superbly.

“I Don’t Understand Airport Looks” – Sidharth Malhotra On Being Clicked Out & About…Read full details

http://ift.tt/2lgvrEP

Sidharth Malhotra is one of the most good looking actors we have in Bollywood right now. So, it’s but obvious that the paparazzi would want to click him every time they spot him out and about doing his thang. But for Sidharth, who grew up as a simple Delhi boy, this still seems very new to him. In an interview with HT, he opened up on the same.

I don’t understand airport looks. Now they want to click me when I am sweating also. It is amazing because it is such a shift for me because of my upbringing. I am definitely at the stage where I am surprised. I am not negative or positive about it. I am just intrigued that I am now so important. I don’t read stuff about myself, so that keeps it easy. Also, I don’t think none of the actors read the papers and then go and question each other. At least, I don’t.

Haha. Don’t know about you but we’re sure as hell that your fans would love pictures of you sweating too, Sid! LOL.

Barca capable of historic CL comeback, says Suarez

http://ift.tt/2lqIp7f

Barcelona striker Luis Suarez believes the Catalans can become the first side ever to overcome a four-goal first leg deficit in the Champions League when Paris Saint-Germain visit the Camp Nou on March 8.

Barca were torn apart in a 4-0 thrashing by the French champions in their last 16 clash on Tuesday, sparking fierce criticism in particular of coach Luis Enrique.

“It is difficult to lose like that, particularly in the last 16 of the Champions League, but I think this team is capable of turning around the situation,” Suarez said at a charity event on Friday.

“We have to convince ourselves. We are all culpable. When we win, we win together and the same when the opposite happens.

“This team has made history by winning the treble, for winning many things in the last few years and if we want to make history as a team, then we have to focus on turning this tie around.

“It is a great challenge and we are looking forward to it.”

Enrique’s tactics were questioned by midfielders Sergio Busquets and Andres Iniesta, whilst he confronted a reporter for Catalan TV station TV3 in a fiery post-match interview.

The former Barca captain has won eight trophies in his three seasons in charge, but Enrique’s future was already in doubt as his contract expires at the end of the season.

And Suarez insists Enrique should have the right to decide whether he continues next season.

“We have had good times thanks to him and now we are all suffering together and between us have to move forward,” he added.

“The coach is old and mature enough… to know what decision he has taken or will take.

“We will accept whatever decision he makes.”

2017 Nigerian Navy Games holds in Akwa Ibom from Febuary 26

http://ift.tt/2lVcM3b

Nigerian Navy

The 11th Nigerian Navy Games will hold in Uyo, Akwa Ibom from Feb. 26 to March 4, Vice Adm. Ibok-Ete Ibas, the Chief of Naval Staff, has said.

However, the water sports events of the Games, including swimming, kayak, sailing and boat handling, an innovation in this year’s edition, had taken place in Lagos from Feb. 6 to Feb. 9.

Ibas told a news conference on Friday in Abuja that the games would feature 21 sports.

Ibas, represented by the Chief of Administration, Rear Admiral Henry Babalola, said the Games were geared toward building strong mental and physical fitness of naval personnel to man ships.

“Sports and physical training have been the bedrock of Naval personnel’s daily mental and physical readiness for sea and ashore duties.

“They are important factors in the management of personnel in the Navy and therefore have always attracted attention from the authorities,’’ he said.

Ibas said the promotion of mass participation in sports by personnel onboard ships and ashore establishments helped to promote `esprit de corp’ that would enhance healthy working environment.

He said the games would also help to develop talents among the personnel and raise strong teams to represent the Navy and the Armed Forces in national and international sports competitions.

Ibas said that the consistency of the Games had helped to improve the quality of participation in each edition.

He said that the games would be declared open by the Minister of Defence, Mansur Muhammed, while the Senate President, Bukola Saraki would be the Special Guest of honour at the closing ceremony.

Two-legged robot demonstrates complex locomotion

http://ift.tt/eA8V8J

Meet Cassie, the latest step forward in bipedal, walking robots.

Developed at Oregon State University, the ostrich-like system can handle a complex and uneven terrain. It can steer away from obstacles, and even keep its balance when pushed.

The makers say it’s a more energy efficient system, that can go anywhere that a human can go. This could be partially useful in search and rescue.

“Imagine you’ve got a fire in a building and the fire chief isn’t really sure if somebody is still in the building,” said Jonathan Hurst, Oregon State University Associate Professor of Robotics.

“They have to make a difficult decision about whether they’re going to send one of their firefighters in because it’s dangerous. But if you’ve got a robot that has the same ability as a person then it’s a no-brainer; you send a robot in.”

A number of research centres are already working on two-legged robots, most notably Alphabet’s Boston Dynamics. Cassie, the makers say, is more robust than others.

Hurst said, “So a lot of the difference between our machine walking around and a lot of other robots you might see is really under the hood, and you don’t notice it until the robot encounters a completely unexpected disturbance and stumbles and recovers, whereas the other machine might never be able to handle that sort of thing.”

Cassie was built with a one-million dollar grant from the U.S. government. Oregon State spin-off Agility Robotics is now looking to commercialise the system.

Allegri wants another 400 games with Juve

Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri has brushed aside rumours of a move to England’s Premier League by saying he hopes to be at the helm of the Serie A champions for “another 300 or 400” games.

Allegri, who led Juventus to the Champions League final in his first season in charge in 2015 and a defeat to Barcelona, has been linked with a move to Arsenal amid reports suggesting Arsene Wenger could step down as coach of the Gunners.

The rumour mill was set spinning further when reports claimed officials from Juventus had met with Napoli coach Maurizio Sarri.

Asked specifically about reports claiming he had been contacted by interested clubs in the Premier League, Allegri said in midweek: “I’m not confirming and I’m not denying.”

On Saturday Allegri said he intends to honour his current deal, which expires in 18 months, and he left room for an extension when he said: “How can I deny something that I never said, or confirm something which doesn’t exist?

“I’m fine here, I’ve still got a year and a half left on my contract and when the time comes I will sit down with the club to speak about the future and put together a schedule.

“I hope to take charge of another 300 or 400 games as Juventus coach. I’m happy here and, as I’ve always said, if something is not going well then the club will be the first to hear about it.”

Juventus are bidding for a record sixth consecutive Serie A title, the first three of which came under the helm of Chelsea manager Antonio Conte, and a third consecutive league and Cup double.

Allegri’s men sit top of Serie A with a six-point lead on Napoli and a seven-point lead on Roma before facing Cagliari on Sunday.
