Neem tops list of herbs for treating chicken pox

http://ift.tt/2mekDsB

Neem (Azadirachta indica)

A decoction from the leaves of Neem tops the list of herbal remedies for Chicken pox and other skin diseases. Other herbal remedies include Allium cepa (onion), Allium sativum (garlic), rhizomes of Curcuma longa (turmeric), and Aloe vera. Botanically called Azadirachta indica, Neem also popularly known as Dogonyaro in Nigeria belongs to the Meliceae family. The common tree tops the list of plants that have been scientifically verified to effectively treat chicken pox.

Chicken pox is a highly contagious, yet common disease caused by the varicella-zoster virus. It develops into an itchy rash with an outbreak of blisters that occurs on the scalp, face and torso. It is usually a mild illness, which occurs in children but can also cause serious complications in teenagers, adults, pregnant women, newborns and people with weak immune systems. Symptoms may appear between 10 and 21 days of the time of exposure to the virus.

Several studies have shown that chicken pox is common in individuals who are not immune, and have not been vaccinated, can acquire chickenpox easily by touching an infected person, particularly in the region of any open blisters.

Studies suggest that chickenpox infections can be spread by indirect contact. Touching anything that has been touched by someone who is infected by the chickenpox virus, and in the contagious stages of the disease, can cause a chickenpox infection. Documented chicken pox symptoms include: nausea (feeling sick); a high temperature (fever) of 38 degree Celsius (C)/(100.4F) or over aching, painful muscles; headache; generally feeling unwell; and loss of appetite.

Meanwhile, until now, Neem extracts have been shown to possess anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, potent antiviral and anti-cancerous properties.

Neem has been found to be an effective antiseptic for the treatment of viral infection including small pox. Indian researchers in a study published in Journal of Biological Sciences noted that Neem extracts have been shown to possess potent antiviral properties against different viruses including herpes simplex virus type-1 infection and chicken pox. According to a new study published in the International Journal of Clinical Nutrition (IJCN), there are certain compounds in Neem that demonstrate a unique ability to surround viruses, which prevents them from causing infection.

The researchers wrote: “So depend upon the nature or kind microbes minimum amount required to stop the growth. Neem also inhibits viral multiplication by interacting with the surface of the cells to prevent the cell from becoming infected by the virus. Neem has been observed to be effective against a number of viral pathogens in various clinical studies demonstrating it contains unique properties to inhibit viral disease. Neem is one of just a few known antiviral agents.

“Chickenpox, shingles, herpes, and hepatitis are viral conditions, which have been successfully treated, in clinical studies by Neem’s therapeutic compounds. The uncomfortable symptoms of colds and flu’s can be relieved during seasonal changes by the regular consumption of Neem Leaf capsules, extract, or tea.”

Another study published in Asian Journal of Pharmacy and Technology confirmed the wound healing activity of ethanolic extract of Azadirachta indica leaves in male albino rats.

Azadirachta indica leaves ethanolic extract was found to have better and faster wound healing effect than standard drug Povidone Iodine ointment on excision wound model. The article threw light on wound healing activity of ethanolic extract of Azadirachta indica leaves.

Another study published in journal Pharmacognosy Review noted: “Leaf extract is applied externally on boils and blisters. In one study, skin tumors were induced in mice by topical application of DMBA (500 nmol/100 μl for two weeks) followed by TPA (1.7 nmol/100 μl of acetone, twice weekly) as a promoter. The test group received aqueous Azadirachta indica leaf extract (AAILE) orally at a dose level of 300-mg/kg-body weight three times a week for 20 weeks. The results of this study revealed the chemo-preventive potential of A. indica against murine skin carcinogenesis.”

Other studies recommend: “Children should never be given aspirin or medications containing aspirin for chicken pox or any other viral illness because of the risk of Reye’s syndrome.

“Frequent baths are sometimes helpful to relieve itching. Adding finely grounded (colloidal) oatmeal such as Aveeno can help improve itching. Oatmeal baths can be prepared at home also by grinding or blending dry oatmeal into a fine powder and adding about two cups to the bath water. One-half to one cup of baking soda may also be added to bath water to reduce itching.

“The most common lotion used for chicken pox is Calamine lotion. This or any similar over-the-counter preparation can be applied to the blisters to help dry them out and soothe the skin.

“Salt, Chillies, Ghee, oil, spices (Masala) should not be taken at least 15 days after getting the Chicken pox symptoms. The food should be very light and easily digestible. Remember the salt will cause itching in rashes during Chickenpox so avoid using salt. Don’t eat banana, brinjal, and sweet pumpkin for some day even after the Chickenpox is completed cured.

“Don’t touch the rashes and if the itching is intolerable one can use neem leaves to itch. Avoid talking bath for 15 days or till the rashes are completely subsides and dries up.

“Drink lot to water to avoid dehydration which is a common problem during Chicken pox.” Brown vinegar: Add half a cup of brown vinegar to lukewarm bath water. Soak in the tub for at least 10 minutes and this will help relieve any chicken pox itching and will help speed up recovery of chickenpox.

Baking soda: This is a popular home remedy for chicken pox that will help relieve the itchiness. Mixed baking soda in a glass of water, use a soft sponge and gently rub the rash/red spots/blisters with it. This will help avoid eruptions of the blisters.

Vitamin E: Gently rub Vitamin E oil all over the entire body (even areas unaffected) and let it absorb into the skin. This will help any spots or blisters fade away quickly.

Milk: Drink milk in sufficient quantity during Chicken pox but do not drink on empty stomach as it can create gas.

Honey: Applying honey on the Chicken pox scars helps reduce them. Honey will provide relief from itchiness and help heal the blisters caused by chickenpox. Get a good quality, pure honey and coat the affected area with it. Repeat the process two to three times a day until the scars are gone.

The frills, thrills and heckles of the Buhari vacation saga

http://ift.tt/2lNmbwn

President Muhammadu Buhari. PHOTO: STATE HOUSE

Perhaps no other piece of news has arrested the attention of the nation or captivated our collective consciousness these three weeks past than the poorly-managed vacation of President Muhammadu Buhari. For some inordinately inexplicable reasons, an advertised holiday retreat of the nation’s chief executive has turned into an eerie tale of banal official inconsistencies, half truths and downright fabrications. The mainstream media have professionally papered over the narrative of a spritely but lately frail head of government who presided over the event of the 2017 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration on the 15th of January which highlight was a military parade he personally reviewed; and the widely reported news of the sudden but grave turn of events regarding his putative health conditions. They have cleverly dodged to be involved in the “news behind the news” or to be implicated in stories of the alleged dire circumstances of the President’s health. On the other hand, however, the social media platforms have been awash with gory stories of alleged hospital admission in some forlorn private institution, of medical or laboratory tests respecting malfunctioning internal organs, of the rejection by certain body tissues of transplanted organs, and generally of morbid fascination with death.

A significant development in this drama of sorts is the unmasking of the underbelly of the socio-political bankruptcy of the official handlers of government information or processes. In sum, the proper handling of sensitive matters by state officials may be assessed vis-à-vis the ideology (or lack of it) of the requirement of a robust popular information dissemination machinery. Many factors, including the new information super highway, the advent of formal or specialised education, new cultural values, our peculiar reactions to matters of politics and our hyper-sensitivity to religion, etc all play influential roles in today’s information gathering and dissemination. Today’s information network is preoccupied mainly with making news reach a great social alternative. This form is directed towards actual intellectual and physical involvement of the intended audience through popular, common or everyday expressions, simple language, familiar idioms or lingo and extant mannerisms.

Most times the angry evaluation of the betrayal of our political independence portrayed in writings in mainstream journals and on social media network platforms is so sorely misunderstood and officially taken to be “negative.” But generally, the purpose of these writings is to help in the restoration of positive community values. What is demanded is a socio-historical understanding of this development with a view to throwing light on current challenges. For much of what the ubiquitous social media represent, an apparently opportunistic tactic and not a matter of doctrinaire belief may be discerned. But this does not in any way detract or derogate from its intrinsic “evangelising” message. Social media populism conduces to mass mobilisation in a superficial political form even as it serves as an alternative political platform or arena. It finds its natural ideological trajectory in the “aluta continua” foundations of most of its proprietors or founders.

If the truth be told, the official mouth organs of the Presidency have been remiss or negligent in the discharge of the functions of their office by not being pro-active regarding the requirement of free-flowing dissemination of the news revolving around the alleged health mishap of the President. For all the time, they allowed themselves to be put on the defensive regarding the truth value or otherwise of any news item concerning the vexed issue. More embarrassingly, they gave out pieces of information which internal contradictions exposed their own chicanery. For instance, in response to the widely-believed view that the President’s postponed return date was due to his continuing poor health conditions, his information aides have curiously informed a bewildered nation that the collection by Buhari himself of the results of his medical and other tests may have necessitated the postponement or delay of his home return. The duo of Garba Shehu and Femi Adeshina cut a sorry or pitiable picture as they laboured each time to make appropriate responses to the expression of genuine public concerns regarding Buhari’s true material and emotional condition. The Minister of Information and Culture, Mr. Lai Mohammed is no less pitiable or agonizing. These are testy times for Mohammed. The news item reportedly wrongly credited to him that the requirement to “refurbish” the President’s aircraft would delay his return is not only tacky but lacking in rigour or deep thrust. Also curious and laughable is the diplomatic faux pas which passed as the “congratulatory message” President Trump of the U.S. allegedly sent to President Buhari even in the light of the devolution of presidential powers to Prof. Yemi Osinbajo as Acting President. Somebody truly is being economical with the truth regarding our perilous situation.

We conclude by citing with approval the thesis of Francis Fukuyama that a society that fails to confront a major material or philosophical crisis through serious institutional (and possibly, personnel) reform is tempted to resort to a host of short time fixes that erode and eventually corrupt its cherished institutions. The rude shyness or inexcusable reluctance of Buhari’s men to come out clean regarding the true fate of the President obfuscates or befogs the entire atmosphere and has understandably given room to wild guesses, un-axiomatic conjectures and, even, tarradiddles.

Gratifyingly, despite the pervading gruesome realities, the subject of the irresponsibility of persons in authority regarding their charge over us is discussed light-heartedlywithout being irresponsible. This trend may however not continue to be taken for granted. The challenge or difficulty resides in involving our leaders to take the discussions of our national plight seriously in time to arrive at rational conclusions. Nigeria’s problems have continued to worsen dramatically over the years. They require to be taken seriously in open, frank or no holds-barred discussions.

Former Manchester United striker Louis Saha with pupils of St John’s Catholic Primary School, Bolade, Oshodi, Lagos during Kansai Plascon schools Community Social Responsibilities (CSR) yesterday.

For teachers and pupils of Temidire Primary School, Shogunle, and St. John’s Catholic School, all in Oshodi, Lagos, yesterday will forever remain a memorable moment in their life. It was a day former Manchester United, Everton, Tottenham, Sunderland, Newcastle and Fulham striker, Louis Saha, brought his soccer artistry to the area.

The presence of Saha, a Brand Ambassador of paint manufacturing giant, Kansai Plascon, attracted thousands of football-loving Nigerians to the schools in the early hours of yesterday. He has been in Nigeria since Monday for the commissioning of the company.

Kansai Plascon, a major innovation drive in the industrial and furniture coatings markets in South and Southern Africa, has entered the Nigerian market with Oshodi, Lagos as its manufacturing headquarters.

The Paris-born Saha, whose spell at Old Trafford saw him winning two Premier League titles, the Champions League and the League Cup, told The Guardian yesterday at St. John Catholic School, Oshodi, that his partnership with Kansai Plascon since retiring from football had been rewarding.

“This company has a great foresight and what they are doing is in line with the vision of great footballers all over the world. Young players who believe in their dream should have something to do with Kansai Plascon because of their quality products,” Saha said.

He described Nigeria as a land flowing with milk and honey as far as football talents is concerned.

Teachers and pupils of the two schools, which Kansai Plascon has painted in Oshodi were full of excitement yesterday having Saha and top officials of Kansai Plascon in their midst.

On his part, Saha was also full of joy, as he taught the children some basic football skills, including how to score goals using the back heel. He later danced with the children, just as he presented balls and other kits to them.

The Director, Kansai Plascon, Chief Sylverius Okoli and the Chief Commercial Officer of the company, Farid Masood, said many Nigerians had already made Kansai Plascon a preferred procurement choice in the paint industry.

It would be recalled that Saha entered football folklore in 2009 when he scored the fastest goal in FA Cup final history as he fired past goalkeeper Petr Cech after just 25 seconds of the Toffees’ 2-1 defeat to Chelsea. He spent four and a half years with Manchester United.

The Biography Of Apostle Johnson Suleman [Age, Life Profile & Net Worth]

http://ift.tt/2keNGeW

p

Apostle Johnson Suleman or simply Apostle Suleman, is a Nigerian evangelist and televangelist. As is well known, Callings and divine
selections are purely in-human decision, but a products of predestination, which are made way before the very creation of the world and hatched into reality when the called discovers his destiny.

Such is the case of Apostle Johnson Suleman. Few days after Apostle Johnson Suleman was born, story has it that Prophets traveled all the way from Warri in Delta State of Nigeria, to Benin in Edo State of Nigeria (Apostle Johnson Suleman’s place of birth), armed with message from God.

When his parents inquired to know what the message was all about, they were informed that God told the prophets that a prophet that would minister in God’s presence has been born. Apostle Johnson Suleman’s parents refused to continue listening to the prophets because they were Muslims and could not understand the possibility of their son becoming a Christian, let alone being God’s minister.

As the young Apostle Johnson Suleman began to grow, his parents observed that he was somehow strange in the way he did things. He values the things of God even as he attends the mosque with his father. As young as he then was, he knew he was not in a path he was meant to be. While he was doing his secondary school in Auchi his home town, Apostle Johnson Suleman had an encounter with CHRIST but he however received a lot of pressures that made him to withdraw from Christianity for a little while.

However, Apostle Johnson Suleman later moved to Benin City in Edo State, where he finally declared for CHRIST, and got reconnected with his DESTINY. Immediately after that, Apostle Johnson Suleman started hanging-out with his Christian brothers, and accompanies them for work of evangelism and prayers. On June 20, 1994 he got a revelation where he saw the image of the globe being given to him with a biblical inscription of Acts 10:38 written on it. Before this happened, Apostle Johnson Suleman had read through the whole Bible repeatedly for three good times because of his unquenchable thirst for God. However, all the time he had studied he bible, he never gave any particular attention to Acts 10:38.

Apostle Johnson Suleman arose from the vision, he was so shocked, and immediately searched for his bible to check out what the scriptures reveals. Upon opening the verse, he saw that it contain the following sentence: “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good and healing all that were oppressed of the devil, for God was with Him”. He then immediately understood that he had just been communicated the Mandate given to him by God to preach his gospel around the world with a Power Ministry. It is consequent upon the above that his ministry, Omega Fire Ministries International was later born. Omega Fire Ministries International ‘s website has it that God gave His chosen servant, Apostle Johnson Suleman, a divine mandate to: clean the tears, have peoples’s destinies restored by the preaching of the word, and bringing into manifestation the power and reality of the Holy Spirit. They maintain that God equally instructed His chosen Servant to bring to an end, the affliction of His people by telling him “ I AM SENDING YOU WITH AN OMEGA ANOINTING…” The Omega Fire Ministries International was accordingly brought into existence to restore the joy of men, making men to manifest their destiny, thereby becoming the best that God created them to be and reversing the wickedness of the enemy.

Omega Fire Ministries International believes in the fire operation of the Holy Spirit of God which refines, purifies and at the same time destroys. The mission of Omega Fire Ministries International is one that believes in judgment of God on the wicked. The ministry believes that the oppressions and demonic manipulations are reality, they know equally that the authority of God’s power is more real, that it is all-powerful and all-pervading.

Omega Fire Ministries International hold as true the belief that all power belongs to God and that the devil and his cohorts has no scriptural right to control and manipulate the destinies of the children of God. They also believe that It is the right of believers to live fulfilled life. Consequently, the ministry believes it is saddled with the divine mandate to restore those divine rights of believers.

In January 2017, Apostle Johnson Suleman was involve in a controversial invitation by DSS. The invitation generates many controversy in all internet social media platforms.
