PORT HARCOURT—Unidentified bandits have kidnapped Mrs. Leeyira Sinee, a female lecturer in the Department of Computer Science at the Kenule Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic, Bori, Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State.
A source, who related the development to Vanguard, said the woman was whisked away at gunpoint on her way to the church.
Confirming the incident to newsmen, the Chairman of Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP, in the institution, Ferry Gberegbe, noted that the victim was kidnapped on her way to the church.
Gberegbe called on the kidnappers to free the victim unconditionally and urged the state government and Commissioner of Police to improve security around Bori.
Gberegbe said: “The young lady was accosted this morning (yesterday), by men of the underworld, while going to Church. We are yet to get calls from the kidnappers. She has not been released. We are appealing to the kidnappers to release her unconditionally.
“We are calling on Governor Nyesom Wike to do something, because the issue of kidnapping in Bori is becoming unbearable. We are calling on the governor to do everything possible to restore peace in Bori.
“All we are saying is that the relevant security agencies should swing into action to bring about her safe release. She has not done harm to anybody.”
Meanwhile, at press time, police could not confirm the development as the Public Relations Officer of the Rivers State Police Command, DSP Omoni Nnamdi, could not be reached.
