OUT of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks says the Holy Bible. And when these two Governors spoke about themselves, recently, they indeed spoke from their hearts. What they told us may not be palatable to us all and to themselves, but they gave us food for thought.
Okorocha had reportedly announced that three of four Southeast governors were in talks with him over plans to cross carpet to All Peoples Congress (APC),the party that he Okorocha crossed to from APGA, while Obiano remains the only standing Governor of APGA today, in Nigeria.
Obiano miffed by the fact that his grip over the party in his re-election bid was being undermined by the former, lashed out at Okorocha,who expectedly returned fire for fire, and they opened the taps of their hearts to release what they stored up over the years. They called themselves names from clueless, shameful sons of their parents, liars, fraudulent leaders with dodgy past, motor park politicians, aggressive, militant, and what have you. They boasted of their achievements, and in all these they forgot, that a good number of their listeners and readers are not really impressed with their so called achievements, grand standing, and all that pride.
God himself resists the proud the Holy Scriptures tell us, and they are Christians, ruling over mostly Christian citizenry.
I must give it to them however, that they have very good command of insulting language and words, which I won’t envy for ever! One thing is clear, bad politicians are liars, and only a fool will be deceived by their games, because tomorrow, these two will settle down, wine and dine, over our heads.
Don’t let them fool you therefore, because both of them blamed the tirade on their media handlers, but fired or queried none of these aides or staffers.
They lied and demeaned themselves and done disservice to their high offices and the people they represent!
In Igbo land, a proverb says that when a jest is made of one mother or parent, all children feel the shame. The State of the Igbo nation today will tell us if they are indeed good politicians, worthy of our respect.
On one hand, Obiano rightly should be concerned about Okorocha’s political moves knowing that he quit APGA, tried to kill that party in Imo state, after crossing to APC, and would do virtually anything to deliver Anambra to APC, not caring what such a move may mean to Igbo nation. The best defence in some situations is an attack, so he attacked.
On the other hand Okorocha was using the same tactic he is a master at, boasting and intimidating his opponents before the actual attack. He did it to APGA in Imo, and may be planning same to conquer Anambra, so he flew that kite, and got what he expected, went to town blowing his own trumpet, all to reduce Obiano before his Anambra people, and indeed, other states in Igbo land, to make room for his aspirations.
They are adults, ambitious, and entitled to chose whatever strategies they may, to achieve their individual goals. The question remains, How have these left their Igbo nation?
They have led us to understand why the South East Governors Forum went to sleep since three years ago. Some of them may want that forum to die, so that Igbo cohesion would be damaged and destroyed in order to develop new and strange links unchallenged.
These Igbo Governors have failed to appreciate the developments around other ethnic regions of Nigeria, even as they associate politically with them.
For example, Yorubas have Oduduwa Foundation, Oduduwa Commission, Oduduwa Congress, and the likes. The north has Arewa Foundation, Arewa Forum and Youth Forum, and Arewa Congress and their likes, while Igbos have none of these known to be making any realizable contributions.
Given the super brains, and successes of these two Governors why has it become difficult, if not impossible for them to simply copy what is good for them in Nigeria from other better organized and wiser ethnic nations in Nigeria?
Could it be that the extjreme ego, greed, and selfishness of these leading governors is responsible for the lack of Igbo unity, and cohesion? Our two governors gave the answers to this question in the names they called themselves, and the releases from their media aides. If the Governors could not meet, who blocked the Attorneys Generals and the key officers of their Houses of Assembly of these Igbo States from meeting and discussing legislative matters and solutions that confront the region?
Why can’t Igbo Governors and people come up with a unified response to the menace and threat of armed Fulani Herds men? Do Igbo Governors not know that the roaming of Cows in their cities, Petrol Stations, and gardens within the state capital is a good testimony of the inadequacies, and indeed a shame of the Governor of that State?
Do our Igbo Governors have the Igbo Spirit at all, or they just live as none Igbos, on Igbo nation? I presume that these governors have ample Igbo Spirit in them, but the dilemma is why they lack a response to the continued killing of unarmed Igbo youths under whatever guise by the Nigerian Army?
Can any Igbo Man who saw the civil war, or read about it in any depth, deny the spirit of Biafra, or try to fight it?
The denial of the Spirit of Biafra in Igbo people is sheer foolishness, and deception because IPOB,MASSOB/BIM, and other groups such as these point to the future of Igbo nation, and our Governors owe it to themselves and Igbo people to help direct, advise, and empower these youths to follow the best route in their quest for justice and fairness in Nigeria.
If the problem is lack of education, then educate them, if they lack information, then inform them, and if they are poor, create jobs for them.
Our Governors should stop running around, settle down, and create the much needed unity and cohesion to develop the South East as One united Igbo Region.God help us.
