Guinean soldier Aboubacar Sidiki Diakite (C), better known under the nickname "Toumba", former aide to coup leader Dadis Camara, walking out the Indictment Chamber of the Dakar Criminal Court as he faces justice over a massacre of 157 people in Guinea. A Guinean soldier wanted over the massacre of more than 150 people in a Conakry stadium has been extradited, ending years on the run in neighbouring Senegal and paving the way for his trial.

Aboubakar Sidiki Diakite, also known as Toumba Diakite, was an aide de camp to Guinean coup leader Dadis Camara when 157 people were killed in September 2009 at an opposition rally.

Witnesses reported presidential guards firing on the crowd, beating and arresting opposition leaders, and raping dozens of women in the stadium.

Two months later, Diakite shot Camara after a dispute over responsibility for the massacre, then fled. Both men are accused of ordering the killings.

Diakite was extradited on a commercial flight on Sunday night, his Senegalese lawyer Baba Diop told AFP.

Diop complained the move was “beyond the legal scope” of the courts and Senegal’s President Macky Sall, who approved the transfer on February 10.

The Guinean government said in a statement Monday that it welcomed Diakite’s arrival, which it said it had “wanted and ordered”.

Arrested in Dakar on December 16, Diakite caused a sensation in the local press after it was revealed he had lived unnoticed in a quiet suburb of the city for five years after changing his identity and appearance.

Asmaou Diallo, president of a victims’ association, said on Monday the extradition showed “Guinean justice is willing to tackle impunity in Guinea and to organise (a) credible trial”, adding that victims had already waited seven years to see Diakite in court.

Camara, Diakite’s commander, took power by force in 2008 after the death of longtime leader Lansana Conte and ruled until the attempt on his life. He survived and remains in exile in Burkina Faso.

Guinea has since returned to civilian rule.

http://ift.tt/2mWL49v

At least 24 people were killed and 28 others injured in a giant landslide of garbage inside a trash dump on the outskirts of the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa, a city spokesman told AFP on Sunday.

The landslide late Saturday levelled more than 30 makeshift homes of squatters living inside the Koshe landfill, said Dagmawit Moges, head of the city communications bureau.

Many of the victims were squatters, who scavenged for valuables in the dump, he said.

“We expect the number of victims to increase because the landslide covered a relatively large area,” he said.

The Koshe site has for more than 40 years been one of the main garbage dumps for Addis Ababa, a rapidly growing city of some four million people.

Streeter was born on July 7, 1986 in Haines City, Florida to Tim and Karen Streeter. At a young age, Streeter performed in a local church choir and admired the music of gospel singer, Yolanda Adams. By age 14, she had her first recording session.

Streeter received her first record deal at the age of 15, performing in the girl group TG4, which was put together by Chris Stokes and T.U.G. Entertainment, where Stokes served as their manager.

He offered Sevyn Streeter the first spot in the T.U.G./A&M group after she opened for B2K and IMx at a concert in Orlando, Florida in early 2001. Davida, Ashley, and Keisha fell in line after a series of successful auditions. The name TG4 is shorthand for TomGirls 4 Eva. “We’re like four Tom Girls,” said Amber, who tied for the winning slot on Apollo Kids when she was 10. “‘When you’re a girl and you act like a boy, you’re a tomboy. We’re girls and we act like guys but love being girls, so we’re tom girls.” The group opened for B2K, IMx and Bow Wow for their Scream II Tour, presented an award at the 9th Annual Soul Train Lady of Soul Awards at the Pasadena Civic Center in Pasadena, California on August 23, 2003, and performed on Soul Train.

The group’s only major single was “Virginity”, which peaked at number 88 on the US Billboard R&B chart in 2002.

Their second single from the album was “2 Minutes”, which a music video was filmed for. It failed to chart on any Billboard chart. The group also appeared on the track, “Sexy Boy” on the B2K album Santa Hooked Me Up. The group parted ways with their original label and their album, Time for the New, was shelved indefinitely. After Davida Williams departed from the group to focus on her acting career, they renamed the group “Tomgirls 4 Eva” and they were signed to Soul Chemistry. Shortly thereafter, the group disbanded.

Amber was later discovered by Rich Harrison on MySpace, and signed onto the RichCraft label as Se7en. Amber “Se7en” Streeter signed a deal with Jive Records and the RichCraft label in 2007 as a member of Rich Harrison’s girl group, RichGirl. Although the group never released a full debut LP, work on a self-titled debut album had begun in 2009 with a planned release in 2010 and 2011.

The album saw the release of a promotional-single titled “24” featuring Bun B. and two official singles, ” He Ain’t wit Me Now (Tho)” and “Swagger Right”. Following unsuccessful attempts to chart, the girls released their one and only full album on Valentine’s Day 2011 with a mixtape Fall in Love with RichGirl. The group later disbanded after all members of the group pursued solo careers and different endeavors. The group opened for Beyoncé for her concert tour I Am… World Tour and toured with Mario before disbanding. On March 21, 2012, Streeter released a song titled “Red Handed” along with a statement that confirmed her disbandment from the group and revealed that she had signed with Chris Brown’s CBE imprint.

Following the release of Chris Brown’s Fortune (2012), Se7en has been featured on the album as Sevyn (removing the number “7”, and adding a “v” and “y” instead). Se7en changed her stage name to Sevyn Streeter. On October 30, 2012, she released her debut single ” I Like It”, and premiered the music video for the song on BET’s 106 & Park on January 4, 2013 in Los Angeles, California, and on May 22, 2013, she released her second single “It Won’t Stop”.

On March 25, 2014, Streeter released her third single “nEXt” featuring American rapper Kid Ink, as a remixed version. The music video premiered a day later on March 26, 2014. Also, Streeter recorded a song for the Furious 7: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack called “How Bad Do You Want It (Oh Yeah)”. The soundtrack album was released on March 17, 2015. The song samples the Aero Chord’s Festival Trap Remix of Ultra Music’s duo Bang La Decks’ 2013 single “Utopia”. On April 28, 2015, Sevyn Streeter released the second single from her debut album titled ” 4th Street”.

The music video was released simultaneously with the single.

On October 26, 2016, Streeter was scheduled to perform the National Anthem at the start of the Philadelphia 76ers season opener but the 76ers organization did not approve of her shirt, which read, “We Matter.” This came just one day after the NBA unveiled its “Together” campaign, promoting unity in the wake of the recent National Anthem protests sparked by San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick. On November 15, 2017 a 18-date tour was announced to promote “Girl Disrupted” starting on January 12, 2017, in St. Louis, Missouri and finishing on February 12, 2017, at The Roxy in Los Angeles. The wife of Brazil’s embattled former president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva was declared brain dead on Thursday, doctors in Sao Paulo said.

“An absence of blood flow in the brain was identified,” doctors at the Sirio-Libanes hospital said.

The family of Marisa Leticia Lula da Silva, 66, had authorized the donation of her organs and “procedures were begun for the donation,” the hospital said in a statement.

Lula’s family issued a statement thanking supporters for “all the expressions of sympathy and solidarity.”

Da Silva had been hospitalized since January 24 with a brain haemorrhage due to a ruptured brain aneurism.

A minute of silence was held in the lower house of Congress in the capital of Brasilia. Da Silva — whose husband is universally known as Lula — was first lady from 2003 to 2010.

Although Lula left power with sky high ratings and taking credit for Brazil’s economic boom, his legacy has been badly tarnished by a subsequent recession and a string of corruption charges last year in which his wife was also indicted.

Both Lula and his wife denied any wrongdoing.
