The management of Goldlink Insurance Plc, has received a team of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS),with the purpose of fostering a better relationship in head office in Lagos

The Federal team was on a Compliance visit to the underwriting firm in order to ensure its continuous commitment to its tax responsibilities as required by the law.

While appreciating the FIRS support over time, the Acting Managing Director of Goldlink Insurance Plc, Mrs. Funke Moore assured the team of the company’s unwavering commitment in ensuring full compliance with tax laws and obligations.

Goldlink Insurance was licensed in 1993, and has been one of the foremost and experienced underwriters in the Nigerian insurance industry, providing cover for Life and General Insurance businesses.

Dark rooms of memories

Fusing poetry, dance and drama, Strelitzia is an experimental piece that internalises poems with different theatrical gestures. Strelitzia, written by Donna Ogunnaike, presents a trajectory of experiences around human existence. The performance throws light on most of the fundamental aspects of life: time and memory.

However, it does not leave out ‘banal’ subjects such as sensuality.

The piece was presented in fragments with the audience led by a costumed-dancer, who like a fairy, guides them into rooms filled with memories of things and events of the past. Each of the room is symbolic, filled with experiences of human existence — from a man who is unable to detach himself from life tangles to the shadow-dance of a nude girl with a long tie that raises one’s sensuality.

In the last movement, is the story of Bisi whose love life is ruined by time and her economic status. The progression of the story is interrupted by another tale of Clementina — a clear case of religious hypocrisy in social space of Nigeria.

This interim story cheapens the plot and one almost forgets about Amina until the story returns to her again. In addition, a suggestion could have helped the audience understand Lati’s character, whether he is a Christian convert or not.

In an effort to connect the audience to the issues thematised in her story, Donna Ogunnaike ask them to participate in the performance by un-bottling their minds through writing on the wall of the final room. Share your memories on the wall, she urges the audience members in the concluding sequence of the play.

In all, with apt costuming, lighting, props and actions that track conditions around human existence, all the genres in the piece are beautifully sustained.

Nigeria charges Shell, Eni with corruption

Nigeria’s anti-graft agency on Thursday filed corruption charges against oil majors Shell and Eni over a $1.3 billion offshore block deal.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) accused 11 defendants of “official corruption”, according to court documents.

Shell, Eni and Agip, Eni’s Nigerian subsidiary, are alleged to have corruptly given the “aggregate sum of $801 million” to Nigerian businessmen and politicians. This is the latest probe into the controversial 2011 oil deal that highlights endemic corruption within the sector.

Italian prosecutors are also looking into the purchase of the OPL 245 block prospecting license. OPL 245 is located in deep offshore waters in the Gulf of Guinea estimated to hold at least 9 billion barrels of crude reserves.

Oil majors Shell and Eni have both denied wrongdoing.

“Eni did not do anything wrong,” said the chief executive of Eni Claudio Descalzi to the Financial Times in February.

“At every stage, we have acted in compliance with all applicable law . . . Eni and Shell paid the government of Nigeria, and were not involved with the government decision on how to use such money.”

Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari secured a historic first win for an opposition leader when he defeated Goodluck Jonathan in the 2015 presidential elections. He campaigned on a platform to target rampant corruption and has said “mind-boggling” sums have been stolen from the public purse.

His government has arrested a series of high-ranking officials from Jonathan’s administration on corruption charges but few have been convicted.

Sony Music makes Wizkid ‘top priority’

With no grandiose announcement to his official signing to RCA Records, and the apparent delay to get stuff out from him lingered until Daddy Yo came in last December, not many believed that Caro singer, Wizkid is a Sony artiste.

Wizzy’s opted to keep mute about his mega deal with the American major entertainment label, whilst choosing to work publicly and drop no record. But with the release of ‘Daddy Yo’, which was produced by Dre Skull, there has been some activity going on in his career.

While fans and the world took time to acquaint themselves with the pop singer’s reggaeton influence on the song, they were confronted with a new reality: Hush up the silence, another collaboration between Wizkid and Drake.

The new single, had its unfinished version leaked on the internet. Sony Music in a swift reaction scrubbed the internet of every available file, while also hastening the release of the single.

The song was recently sent to radio stations in the US and UK, and an official date for the release has been planned. The roll-out of the single is really on, and the video has already been planned. There is a call for cast models, who would want to take part in the video for the single. Similar thing is happening for his recently released single with Jamaican top act, Vybz Kartel.

In 2016, Wizkid travelled the length of the globe, chasing collaborations and getting hyped across social media by stars. He did get himself some success with his part on Drake’s One Dance, and had a hit with Tinie Tempah to subsist on.

Wizzy is opening the year 2017 with more activity than he had at this time last year. This, RCA executives, Peter Edge and Tom Corson has confirmed. Music Business Worldwide in recent interview inferred with informed sources that the record label has Wizkid as one of its priorities. Other artistes include Miley Cyrus, Pink and Bryson Tiller.

“New RCA priorities in 2017 include 18-year-old Texan Khalid; All My Friends singer Tinashe, Nigerian One Dance collaborator Wizkid, hip-hop artiste Goldlink and band Muna – while we can also expect new records from Bryson Tiller, Pink and perhaps from Miley Cyrus, who’s started work on her RCA follow-up to Bangerz.”

Wizkid at the beginning of the year promised four mixtapes, and further revealed that one of those projects would be collaboration with Wande Coal. There have been calls from music enthusiasts for the singer to drop more hits to justify his current high-flying position. With Sony Music renewed commitment to the Starboy Records boss career, fans are certain to get more than they expect.

Egypt, Cameroon set for AFCON final

Egypt will attempt to win the fourth consecutive Africa Cup of Nations in which they have competed when they face Cameroon in tomorrow’s final.

The Pharaohs, among the tournament favourites from the outset in Gabon, were victorious in 2006, 2008 and 2010 before failing to qualify for the next three editions in 2012, 2013 and 2015.

Underdogs Cameroon have upset the odds to reach the final,  beating much-fancied Ghana in the last four.

The game is a repeat of the 2008 final.

Cameroon’s squad includes two British-based players, Hearts midfielder Arnaud Djoum and Clinton N’Jie, although the latter is on loan at Marseille from Tottenham.

Egypt have three players from England’s Premier League – defender Ahmed Elmohamady (Hull) and midfielders Mohamed Elneny (Arsenal) and Ramadan Sobhi (Stoke), as well as former Chelsea winger Mohamed Salah.

Seven-time winners Egypt earned their place in a record-equalling ninth Afcon final by  beating Burkina Faso 4-3 on penalties following a 1-1 semi-final draw.

The Pharaohs’ hero in the semi-final was 44-year-old goalkeeper Essam El Hadary, whose save in the shootout means he now has a chance to win a fifth Afcon title, having won his first in 1998.

El Hadary has been in fine form in Gabon, the goal he conceded in the semi-final being the first he has let in during the tournament.

The make-up of Cameroon’s squad has changed significantly since the appointment of Hugo Broos as manager in February 2016, but he is confident his youthful line-up can cause an upset.

“In the 29 years I’ve been a coach I’ve never worked with a group like this,” said the Belgian, who is hoping to lead the Indomitable Lions to a first Afcon title since 2002 and fifth overall.
