http://ift.tt/2kD2ian

p

It is no longer news self acclaimed movie producer Seun Egbegbe who is due in court in a couple of days for attempting to steal 9 iPhones from Computer village in Lagos last year , was caught trying to dupe two bureau de change operators the sum of $9000, and £3000.

Egbegbe and and his accomplice one Ayo Oyekan disguised as the MD of Gbagada general hospital and the other as a patient. They lured Alhaji Isa Adamu and Abdullahi Haruna both bureau de change members , from different location to the hospital to steal the money from them. The unsuspecting victims brought the money to the suspects at the hospital where they collected the said amount and attempted to escape with the money.

However, MDB can confirm to you that apart from the sum $9000, and £3000, the sum of $2900 was also recovered from Egbegbe.

Reliable sources present at the scene revealed exclusively to MDB that Egbegbe while trying to escape hid the money in his underpants, where it was eventually recovered from.

This brings to total the sum recovered from Seun Egbegbe and his accomplice as $11900 and £3000.

#IStandWithNigeria: Klint Da Drunk’s wife, Lilien declares her support for Feb 6th protest against Govt

http://ift.tt/2kc2ooT

p

Comedian, Klint Da Drunk’s wife, Lilien has declare her support for the protest against the government on Feb 6th which is led by 2face Idibia (2Baba). She revealed that even though she was fan of former president, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, she supported the ‘Occupy Nigeria protest which made the government reduced the proposed price for petroleum products. Read what she wrote below:

“I am a fan of GEJ because he was a Democrat and pushed for peace and Unity but I was angry with him when the fuel price was increased without taking into consideration the masses and the way it was introduced without informing people. I condemned the move and protested against the price hike. I was not happy with him because it was a failing of the government to respond to the needs of the people and cushion the effect of rampant poverty.

“The occupy Nigeria movement humiliated the government and made Gej reduce the price. Although it didn’t go back to 65 Naira but our voices and activities against an unpopular decision made the government listen. That’s what protest can do. I did not sit back because I was a massive GEJ fan or friend of Pdp rather it was my duty to whip the government back to shape to fulfill it’s promise to the people and stop impoverishing them. That is what citizens must do to make their leaders accountable whether you support them or not. Government officials derive their powers from the people and it’s the people that would force them to conform.

Now another occupy Nigeria is in front of us with the 2face backed rally on February 6th. With GEJ it was about the fuel hike and corruption in high places. With Buhari I don’t even know where to start. Is it the hypocrisy of his anti corruption crusade or the lack of foresight on how to move the country forward? Is it the prevailing hunger killing everybody or a government that continues to destroy the economy but satisfies itself with blames and excuses? Buhari’s economic sins are endless and it’s making Gej’s occupy Nigeria look like child’s play.

This February 6th rally is long over due and if you are a true patriot it’s necessary to come out enmass to let your voices be heard. It matters not if you are a Pdp or Apc supporter. Your wallet and stomach knows no party.

Your generator and car fuel tank knows no party. Your kitchen gas or stove knows no party. The forex exchange that did not pass N215 since 1960 but has shot up to N500 in 18months under Buhari knows no party. It affects all of us whether yoruba, Ibo, hausa, ijaw, urhobo, fulani, efik etc.

The more you keep quiet and support a government that does not care the more the economy weakens because Buhari has not seen the anger and hunger affecting us. He increased fuel to 145 from 97 Naira but we kept quiet. Price of diesel has shot up 200% but we kept quiet. Forex increased from 215 to 300 but we kept quiet. It increased from 300 to 400 but we kept quiet. It has increased to 500 but some people are still saying I stand with Buhari.
At what point in time would you sit down with Buhari? Is it when your family is starving and you are begging for crumbs with the forex at 1000 to a dollar? Right now the economy is stagnant but no reprieve anywhere.

Cost of living has increased but salaries have remained the same. If you run a business your cost of maintaining that business has increased 1000% fold but you are generating the same 2015 income or less. If you are working for a company, you work harder but your salary has remained the same since 2015 but your daily expenses has shot up 1000%. Where we put on this earth to suffer and stagnate or to move forward? Let’s not talk about the millions that have been sacked because Oga cannot pay salaries or bills anymore. Has Buhari thought of how these people are surviving without any help or assistance?

That’s why people had to run to MMM to survive. If there was progress economically would millions of people throw their savings into it. This government does not give a rat ass about anybody. You are on your own.

Remember you control the government not the other way around. I support the 2face backed rally. You should also do that too so as to protect your family from impending doom and starvation.#istandwith2baba”

Excuses don’t get things done: Be stronger than your excuses

http://ift.tt/2jJl4Od

“If you wait for perfect conditions, you will never get anything done”- Ecclesiastes 11:4

“Where there’s a will there’s a way”
– English proverb

It is victim’s mentality to hold others responsible for the situation in your own life. Niccolò Machiavelli once said, “Where the willingness is great, the difficulties can never be great”. In life, when you refuse to make excuses, you make something incredible happen in your life. People that will make maximum impact in life make minimum excuses. They understand that excuses don’t get things done. There is no use for a life full of excuses. Benjamin Franklin said ‘’I never knew a man who was good at making excuses who was good at anything else.’’ There are two things to make in life; it is either you are making excuses or you are making progress. In life, it is impossible to give excuses and still have results. Excuse empowers; it empowers our inadequacy. It empowers us to fail!

“An excuse is worse than a lie, for an excuse is a lie, guarded”-Alexander Pope
A victim mind-set causes people to focus more on what they cannot control to the detriment of what they can control. It is a recipe for recurring frustration and failure. Nobody must be the reason why you fail in life. Stop attaching your frustration and failures to the Nigerian system; rise beyond your excuses, rise beyond your background; determine the one thing you were created to be and be willing to pay the price to be it. Don’t use your situation to excuse yourself out of your rightful position in life and eternity. It is easy to discern victims; they are full of excuses, they keep focusing on problems rather than solutions, they are fault-finders rather than path finders. If life is so important to you, you will find a way, if not, you will find an excuse.

Learn to take responsibility and ownership of your future. The best way to predict the future is to design it. Don’t attach your life to the government. Don’t attach your life to your salary or pension. Yes, you need government to provide some things but government can’t provide you vision, purpose and direction for your life. Albert Einstein said, “If you want to live a happy life, tie it to a goal, not to people or things.” The Nigerian nation seems to be full of people passionate about justifying their situations and circumstances rather than finding real solutions to problems. A victim’s mentality is an illness of the mind, its antidote in one dose: take responsibility for your life and stop excusing your inadequacy.

‘’Excuses are well planned lies.’’ –Dani Johnson
One of the most prevalent habits among the youths is their penchant for excuses. Some make excuses as if their lives depend on it. Until you cultivate the habit of living above your excuses, you will continue to live an inferior life. We really start to live, the moment we develop the strength that is stronger than our excuses. So many people, by rejecting and excusing themselves out of taking responsibilities, have actually eliminated themselves out of any opportunity to grow. It is easier to go from failure to success than it is from excuses to success.

So many people have risen beyond their ‘shabby’ backgrounds to become people of substance and great impact. Charles Dickens was lame, Helen Keller was the first deaf-blind person to earn a bachelor of Arts degree, Plato was a hunchback, Sir Walter Scott was paralyzed, Albert Einstein could not speak until he was four years of age, Franklin Roosevelt was crippled by polio and became the first president to be wheeled into the white-house on a wheel chair!

“Quit the excuses to live a life that you want”-Anonymous
I will be sharing with us a story that illustrates the need to take full ownership of our lives regardless of life’s verdict. A young chap went to a soothsayer to inquire about the hope of his future. Right before his eyes, the soothsayer drew two circles; one in white and the other in black. He then put a millipede in between the circles, saying, “if the millipede crawls into the white circle, your future will be bright and very great, but if it crawls into the black circle, then you are finished and doomed! No future at all!”

As soon as the insect was dropped in between the circles, it began crawling towards the white circle. This chap was super-excited. But suddenly, as it got to the edge of the circle, it turned back and began crawling away from the white circle towards the black one. The boy watched as the insect progressively moved farther away from his desire to his doom. Then, just when the insect got to the edge of the black circle, this chap stretched his hands, picked it up and quickly but carefully dropped it in the white circle.

“You can have results or excuses. Not both”-Anonymous
The soothsayer in shock, never seen anyone intervened in his own matter, watching all the while, asked the chap what he did and why he did it. The boy smiled and simply replied by saying, “I cannot sit and watch my destiny go down the gloom doom while I can still do something about it and to change its course. My destiny is in my hands”. He got up and left. Many of us are behaving like the flip side of this chap. We leave too many things to chance. We are laid-back. We watch things being messed up right under our nose and we do nothing to change the course of what we can help. Many pray without a corresponding and conscious effort, forgetting that faith without works is dead. What you don’t want, you don’t watch; if you do nothing, nothing will happen.

“When I lost all my excuses, I found my results”-Anonymous
In the candid charge given by the honourable Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, at the 2017 University of Lagos Convocation lecture: “Building a Succession- Generation: Reflections on Values and Knowledge in Nation Building,” Dr. Fayemi urged Nigerian youths to “quit whining” and that nobody owes them anything. Fayemi who went down memory lane told the graduating students of his Alma Mater that, as a UNILAG graduate and a post-graduate student in the United Kingdom, for him to survive, he drove taxis and worked as a security guard, among several other menial jobs. He said,
“the last lesson I want to talk about is the debilitating entitlement mentality that is commonplace among young people today. The earlier we realise that no one owes us anything, the better for us, and the more prepared we would be to face life’s challenges.”

”He who excuses himself, accuses himself”-Gabriel Meurier
Mark Rebel said: “Success occurs when your dreams get bigger than your excuses.” If you are an entrepreneur, realise that people don’t pay for excuses; people pay for services. You can make excuses or you can make progress, the choice is yours. Once you realise that you are the only one holding yourself back, you’ll stop making excuses and you will start making changes. Nobody owes you anything; you will have to earn it. There are no failures in life, only excuses. My fellow Nigerians, let’s ask not what the country can do for us, let’s ask what we can do for our country!

Egypt, Cameroon set for AFCON final

http://ift.tt/2kyKf5j

Egypt will attempt to win the fourth consecutive Africa Cup of Nations in which they have competed when they face Cameroon in tomorrow’s final.

The Pharaohs, among the tournament favourites from the outset in Gabon, were victorious in 2006, 2008 and 2010 before failing to qualify for the next three editions in 2012, 2013 and 2015.

Underdogs Cameroon have upset the odds to reach the final,  beating much-fancied Ghana in the last four.

The game is a repeat of the 2008 final.

Cameroon’s squad includes two British-based players, Hearts midfielder Arnaud Djoum and Clinton N’Jie, although the latter is on loan at Marseille from Tottenham.

Egypt have three players from England’s Premier League – defender Ahmed Elmohamady (Hull) and midfielders Mohamed Elneny (Arsenal) and Ramadan Sobhi (Stoke), as well as former Chelsea winger Mohamed Salah.

Seven-time winners Egypt earned their place in a record-equalling ninth Afcon final by  beating Burkina Faso 4-3 on penalties following a 1-1 semi-final draw.

The Pharaohs’ hero in the semi-final was 44-year-old goalkeeper Essam El Hadary, whose save in the shootout means he now has a chance to win a fifth Afcon title, having won his first in 1998.

El Hadary has been in fine form in Gabon, the goal he conceded in the semi-final being the first he has let in during the tournament.

The make-up of Cameroon’s squad has changed significantly since the appointment of Hugo Broos as manager in February 2016, but he is confident his youthful line-up can cause an upset.

“In the 29 years I’ve been a coach I’ve never worked with a group like this,” said the Belgian, who is hoping to lead the Indomitable Lions to a first Afcon title since 2002 and fifth overall.

In Badia, condoms are taboo

http://ift.tt/2jNpIWx

By Sola Ogundipe

IN the red light district of Badia, in downtown Lagos, sex workers as young as 14, trying to eke a living, by making money to survive, entertain around five clients a day.  Series of photographs taken in the slums of Lagos and published by the Daily Mail shows the faces of sex workers living in squalid conditions. But they are unwittingly   selling something else to unwary clients –   HIV.

Nigeria has the 2nd higest HIV prevalence in Africa after South Africa. Currently, the HIV prevalence rate in adults in the country is 4.1 per cent according to the Iranian Journal of Public Health. and nearly a quarter of Nigerian sex workers are living with HIV, according to a 2013 survey.

There are currently an estimated 1.2 million people   living with HIV in the city. A survey conducted last year has also highlighted that attitudes towards condom use is helping the spread of the condition, and research suggests that nearly a quarter of Nigerian sex workers have HIV.

Thanks to investment and education, the study found, the rate had fallen from five per cent in the early 2000s, but it said there is still some way to go. They charge each client between N1,000 and N2,500 for services rendered.

Another research by the Journal of the International AIDS Society found the prevalence among sex workers in Nigeria was 24.3 per cent.

From the study, it was observed that women often could not negotiate sex because they had no control over making sex partners wear condoms, and were not even expected to carry them.

According to one of the clients, a 28-year-old marketing executive: “The problem is that you cannot even suggest the use of that thing to your boyfriend.   It’s like if you say it you are accusing him of sleeping around or that you are not sure of yourself. No matter which one, it can end the relationship and give you a bad name.”

It was gathered that talk and use of condoms was taboo. ‘To confirm this cultural barrier to access to prevention tools, only one female respondent… has ever gone to buy a condom for her boyfriend, while all the other female respondents were of the view that they would not like their parents and spouses to see them with condoms.”

A 42-year-old father of three told researchers in the study: “Any woman, including my wife who tells her husband about it or gets it for them to use needs to be questioned. In short, she should be seriously sanctioned.”

Tuface planned protest…the many sides to the coin

http://ift.tt/2jJoZdz

Mixed feelings have continued to trail Nigeria pop singer, Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2face, proposed nationwide protest against what he termed as ‘obnoxious policies’ implemented by the President Muhammadu Buhari administration.

The African Queen crooner had taken to his Instagram page on Wednesday, January 25, to Nigerians to join his protest against bad governance and the need for government to the reason for the reckless economic downturn nationwide.

2face had in the post tagged: ‘official 2baba first massive nationwide protest on February 5, 2017’ wrote:  “A call for good governance. A call for urgent explanation by the incumbent Federal Government into the reckless economic downturn nationwide. A call for nationwide protests as we say no to the Executive, no to Legislatures, no to Judiciary… You have all failed us.

“We the people are tired; we can no longer continue with all of you, all your excuses and mistakes are not funny. We do not wish to continue with a system and government that is not working but afflicting the people.

“Where are the recovered looted funds? Why do we still have the executive arms and legislatures still enjoying their salaries and allowances while we hear there’s no money to pay workers? Why do we still see ceaseless power failures with no explanation and hope of getting out of it unlike before? Why do we keep seeing peace talks in Niger Delta, Fulani Herdsmen and IPOB without any solutions being reached, while the strategies keeps aggravating the people involved as political leaders stage forums to extort funds in the name of addressing their subjects? Why did we have petrol price rise to 145 for the sake of global oil price crash and removal of subsidy but such price is still being maintained despite significant re-awakening of the oil price from $30/barrel to $56/barrel?

“Who is to be held accountable for the sudden and continuous hike in price of commodities in the market, where for the first time in history, Nigeria is suddenly selling kerosene at 400 naira per litre as against 50 naira per litre, diesel at 300 naira per litre as against 100 naira per litre and petrol from 87 naira to 145 naira? Yet maintaining the same systems, environment and maybe a lesser money spending government. There’s need for Nigerians to rise against what is happening in this country having waited patiently for the legislatures that were elected to represent the people all to no avail.”

The first salvo dealt to the proposed protest by the singer was from a university don, Akindele Adetoye, a Professor at Obafemi Awolowo University (O.A.U) Ile-Ife, who took his Facebook on Tuesday, Januray 31, to openly slam and chastise the singer for calling people to join him with the protest.

However, after receiving several backlash from people, the Professor on Wednesday, February 1, took to the social media (Facebook) to apologise to singer for his action saying that his (2Face) passion for the country took the best of him.

Initially schedule to hold tomorrow, February 5, the protest has been moved to Monday, February 6. 2Face, while addressing issues surrounding the planned demonstration in a Facebook video message on Tuesday, January 31, stated that the planned protest was moved to Monday, February 6 because president Buhari, who is currently on a 10-day medical vacation in the United Kingdom, is expected back to the country on the day.

He said, “It is not a platform for politicians of any party to manipulate. I know you will still spin it but for one second leave your battles aside and just listen to people without trying to score cheap political points against one another. It is not a point scoring exercise. It is certainly not personal. It is not an organised labour platform. With all due respect to our comrades who have done much for Nigeria, this march is for the unrepresented. It is not a ‘my religion or tribe is better than yours’ matter. All our blood is red. I, Innocent Idibia, am a living example of a Nigerian who owes their success to Nigerians of every tribe and religion. None ask what religion or tribe I am before supporting me. I am grateful.”

“I have dedicated my time and resources to peace building, voter education towards peaceful elections and youth engagement in governance in Nigeria. This time around, my partners, colleagues and I have come together to present a platform for real Nigerians to communicate their real pains to government at all levels in a peaceful and articulate manner with a view to getting lasting solutions to our problems. This march is about demanding that all saboteurs of good government policies should hands off. This march is about encouraging positive minded Nigerians to continue to work without intimidation,” he added.

The Benue born singer and peace ambassador had in the build up to the 2015 General Election launched a campaign called ‘Vote, not Fight’. He called on Nigerians to share via videos, Facebook, Twitter, blogs, SMS to 0902-355-5335 issues affecting them, their daily struggles on or before the protest day, February 6, using any of the hashtags #IStandWith2Baba #IStandWithNigeria #OneVoiceNigeria on social media.

“However, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State command, Fatai Owoseni, on Wednesday disclosed that the Command would not allow popular Implication crooner, embark on any protest in the metropolis.

According to Owoseni, the Command was not ready for such demonstration and as such, it would not be allowed to hold, adding that the Command received an intelligence report that criminals were planning to hijack the process to wreck havoc on Lagos.

He said, “No matter how good an intention is, hoodlums would always find a way to harass, rob and attack innocent members of the public who may wish to go about their Lawful duty. Information reaching us revealed that some hoodlums are planning to hijack the protest match. And as such we wont allow the protest to hold in Lagos. We know that Tuface do not have the capacity to contain such a crowd and we will not fold our hands and watch while things go out of hand.”

Amazing ways to use green tea for skincare

http://ift.tt/2jJgcbL

At the beginning of this year, we talked about how we wanted to look good for less, considering the economic situation of the country is not too encouraging. In light of that, we are putting together for you our wonderful readers, several natural ways to attain fabulous skincare and looks that wouldn’t make you purse bleed and still leave you looking like a million Naira.

Some of us might have heard of the benefits of green tea for weight loss and all that but good news for all you aspiring for beautiful skin as the benefits don’t just stop there.

Green tea isn’t only good for drinking but also perfect to add to your skincare routine. Nutritious and refreshing, it’s one of the home recipes you should definitely start practicing this year and here are the reasons.

Antibacterial and Anti-Inflammatory Properties
Green tea is loaded with antioxidants and other properties, which can fight inflammation and bacteria. Against the backdrop of several studies, ‘green teas possess anti-inflammatory and anti-carcinogenic potential, which can be exploited against a variety of skin disorders’.

Fight the Signs of Aging
No one really likes to age and antioxidants are our most powerful weapon in the fight against aging, with a certain class of antioxidants – known as catechins, being especially potent. EGCG has been found in research to reactivate dying skin cells. While these benefits are limited to the outer layer of skin (as the tea’s properties aren’t absorbed beyond that), the research suggests that these benefits are significant.
Other antioxidants in the tea help prevent free radical damage, and encourage healing of cells – all of which fight signs of premature aging like age spots, wrinkles, and sun damage.

Treats Oily Skin
Tannins in green tea act as an astringent, which shrink pores. The tea also reduces the production of sebum (the skin’s natural oil) by the glands in each pore. This makes it a much better solution than harsh conventional treatments for those with oily skin, which just work by removing excess oil, rather than by reducing production.

Eliminates Acne and Blackheads
Green tea used topically can treat mild to moderate acne. Of course, the tea’s antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and astringent properties all help to fight both acne and blackheads when applied topically, making it a safe and cost-effective alternative to other skin treatments. Green tea is good for all skin type from dry to oily and combination. All you need is two tablespoons of green tea infusion, mixed with honey then massage all over your face and rinse.

For acne-prone skin, add your 30 seconds infused green tea to two tablespoons of honey and apply, then leave for twenty minutes

Exfoliator/Toner
Remove dead skin cells (and rejuvenate the dying ones) by utilizing the slightly abrasive texture of dry green tea leaves. This fantastic exfoliator will also help to remove excess oil and pollutants, exposing the cleansed and renewed skin underneath. For your regular toner, pour your green tea into a clean spray bottle and mist all over your face.

Eye care
Take two infused green tea bags, keep in the fridge for about 30 minutes, then apply on eyelids and leave for fifteen minutes. This would help in fighting bags under the eyes and black eyes. You can also use it as a facial steam by simply boiling water, adding your green tea leaves then use a towel to cover up your face/head in it.

Mama Africa The Musical returns to Cape Town

http://ift.tt/2jJ37iy

The cast and crew of Mama Africa Musical

The Artscape Theatre Centre, Cape Town, South Africa, came alive on Thursday, February 2, as Miriam Makeba: Mama Africa The Musical returned home for the second time base on popular demand. The show, which will run till January 12, is courtesy of the United Kingdom office of the Lagos-based ZMirage Multimedia Company led by the ace theatre technician and producer, Teju Wasee Kareem.

The production, which premiered in Cape Town mid last year, is returning for the second time, after its intensive tour of Missouri and New York in October last year. The story of the life and career of the Grammy award winning singer and civil rights activist, Mariam Makeba, is delightfully told in the musical, written/directed by Niyi Coker Jnr, winner of Washington DC Kennedy Centre Award for directing. Coker is the E. Desmond Lee Distinguished Professor of African/African-American Studies, Theatre & Cinema Arts at the University of Missouri, Saint Louis.

The cross-continental cultural project, Mama Africa The Musical, started three years ago as a collaboration between the University of Missouri, St. Louis USA, and the University of Cape Town, South Africa with the collaboration of the ZM Makeba Trust. But Professor Coker did an extensive research into the life and career of Miriam Makeba; especially her role in the struggle against apartheid. Makeba’s life story illustrates the resilience of the African spirit, master artistry and positive, forward-looking spirit.

The maiden show of the 40-man cast with an international crew was at The Great Hall, University of Western Cape, South Africa (May 25-29, 2016).
