Amazing Nigerian skills thrill FCBESCOLA trainer, Villa

http://ift.tt/2l253Tg

The Technical Director of FCBESCOLA Academy in Lagos, Bernat Villa, says he is excited at the quality of the talents available to his academy, saying the youngsters have shown that Nigeria is blessed with abundant talents that can compare with the best footballing nations of the world.

FCBESCOLA is a soccer academy created to offer students aged five to 18 years the opportunity to learn the values and methodology of FC Barcelona, Spain.

The academy currently has its temporary site at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere.Speaking to The Guardian at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Villa said it was a great opportunity coming to Nigeria to teach students who have individual talents.

“At the beginning when we started working with the kids, it was hard for them to understand our methodology. But now they have begun to understand how we want them to play and how it is being done out there at FC Barcelona. This they have begun to cope with and have started improving our way of playing the sport.

“We have good players here in the academy and when people ask me one thing about the country, I tell them about the individual skills possessed by the Nigerian players.

“With the training we have had with them, now they are beginning to understand also the collective part of football aside the individual part, which we also want them to know. Definitely I will always want to come back again to train these Nigerian kids,” he said.

The technical director, who said FCBESCOLA Academy was just the beginning of more things to come in order to impart the students on the Barcelona methodology, said the tactical aspect of football would also be taught to integrate it with the collective part of the FCBESCOLA methodology.

“The students are equally improving in the tactical area of the game which is also very necessary in the collective part of the game. This is just the beginning as we have two more terms to the end of the first session and we will keep on working with the kids towards producing good set of players comparable to any where in the world before the end of this year,” he stated.

‘Why Senate summoned Customs boss’

http://ift.tt/2mRjcTD

Senator Dino Melaye (APC – Kogi) PHOTO: TWITTER/NIGERIAN SENATE

The Senate has listed its grouses against the Comptroller General of Customs, rtd Col Hameed Ali.The Upper Chamber had last Thursday, summoned Ali, after adopting a motion raised by Senator Dino Melaye (APC, Kogi West). The senators were particularly irked by remarks allegedly made by Ali that seemed to indicate the Senate had no control on the Nigeria Customs Service.

The Vice Chairman, Senate Committee on Communications, Senator Solomon Adeola (APC Lagos West) yesterday explained that the Upper Legislative Chamber was also unhappy with Ali’s alleged refusal to respect the authority of the finance minister, who had the supervisory responsibility over the Customs Service.

Adeola said: “The All Progressives Congress APC-led government of President Muhammadu Buhari was elected on adherence to the rule of law and renunciation of impunity in any form. The story we hear daily is the arrogance and high-handedness of the CG and name-dropping of the president.

He further said: “We had it on good authority of his reluctance to answer to the minister of finance as stipulated in constitution. We that were elected cannot look the other way while the people we represent are subjected to avoidable hardship orchestrated by an unelected appointee in a bid to cure the inefficiencies of the agency he leads. We are in a democracy,” he explained.

The lawmaker further said that the Senate’s resolution for Ali to appear in the Nigeria Custom Service uniform and rank to explain his refusal to suspend the policy on duty on vehicles and other recent acts of the Customs was to protect the organisational integrity and discipline.

Adeola, who is also member of the Finance, Marine, Interior and Science and Technology committees of the Senate, said it is regrettable that as a retired army colonel, who should know the importance of uniforms, the Custom boss wants to demean and undermine the symbolic importance of uniforms, discipline as well as the authority it confers on the agency in its operation as a lawful body.

“We once had a Major General Haladu Hananiya as head of Federal Roads Safety Corps (FRSC) wearing the agency’s uniform as well as a Major Danjuma Maigari wearing the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) agency uniform in Lagos State all in a bid to promote the agencies they lead,” he said.

Adeola maintained that military and paramilitary uniforms, inclusive of ranks are part of the symbol of legitimate authority conferred on the wearer to carry out certain duties on behalf of the government.

According to the senator, to address the concern of officers and men of the Customs Service on the appointment of an ‘outsider’ to head the agency, there may be need to amend the Nigerian Customs Act to restrict appointment of CG to career officers as is done in the Nigerian Police Force, the Nigerian Immigrations and the Nigerian Prisons Service.

CSOs ask Imo Assembly to officially withdraw anti-media bill

http://ift.tt/eA8V8J

By Chinonso Alozie

Owerri — A cross section of Civil Society Organisations, CSOs, yesterday, asked the Imo State House of Assembly to withdraw proposed anti-media law from the Assembly and not on the pages of newspapers and radio stations.

Mr. Emeka Ononamadu of Citizens Centre for Integrated Development and Social Rights, CCIDESOR, stated this while fielding questions from Vanguard in Owerri.

Reacting to what he described as unofficial withdrawal of the bill by the sponsor, Mr. Ugonna Ozuruigbo, who is the Deputy Speaker of House,   Ononamadu said it was unacceptable to them that the bill was withdrawn by a mere statement.

He also argued that until the deputy speaker, withdrew the bill from the House, the CSOs would continue to criticize the House of Assembly.

He said: “ Your career is at stake, your livelihood is at stake, your profession is at stake. The danger is not passing this law but the mentality of this law.

Tyranny grows where the press is gagged. I call this bill, anti-citizens bill, because communities must seek approval before a newsletter is published.

“You do not withdraw a bill on the pages of newspapers, radio stations, but at the floor of the House. We want to advise that the mass media must be vigilant in assessing the situation”.
